Aviation Photography-What lenses?

ANOTHER question from me! haha

I'm incredibly tempted to save up for an entry level DSLR so I can spend most Saturdays or Sundays at LHR going trigger happy at Myrtle avenue taking photos of aircraft big and small

Photography is something I definitely need to read up on, without a doubt but if I were to buy an entry level DSLR, what lenses would I need for going to say Heathrow and spotting from Myrtle avenue?

I'm only interested in lenses that are cheap and cheerful, not an official lens designed for professional photographers, as I have no interest in selling the photos that I would take.

I use a sigma zoom lens 70-300 which gives good results on a Pentax kx both reasonably priced
hope that helps

I use a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5 on a 5D or 7D. Expensive, but brilliant!

Yes, you'll need a telephoto lens from Myrtle Avenue, or the nearby cemetary which is much quieter. From the last mentioned place I use 28-105mm for heavy jets and 100-300mm for smaller aircraft landing on 27L.

A good entry level DSLR is the Pentax KX, I bought one with the two kit lenses, 18-55 and 55-300. The 55-300 is particularly good and I use it for everything ranging from fast moving heavy metal right up to the Orion nebula!

I use a Canon EF 70/200 f/4 USM + Canon Extender 1.4 or Sigma 120/400 , on a Canon 40D.

i've got a 400D and 450D, with canon 18-200mm and 100-400mm lens

both seem fine, you'll probably want 300mm or 400mm if you're going to use it for air shows as well.

Jetstar..
Would you be able to pm me with a link to the exact lens spec you have?
I've got a KX with the standard kit, but would like to purchase a decent and inexpensive zoom kit to try my hand at a bit of aviation photography.
As I am a newbie snapper, I am overwhelmed with the choices ...

Many thanks,
AGOW

I have a Nikon D90, with a variety of lenses. Great piece of kit.
But for "general" use I have a Fujifilm HS10 [10Mp. and a 24-700mm zoom] great camera, the Fuji HS20 is now available (16Mp). Downside is that you have a slight "shutter lag", just like a standard digital. Worth a look, tho'
