Just ignore Winstun.

A fellow pilot needs help and we are going to help him. Simple as that.

No problems donating from Australia now.

His inspirational achievement would be enough in itself, but his modesty, generosity (especially to others involved in that incident), humanity and integrity are beyond admiration.

My donation, if it were 10 times more than it was, would be small compared to what he gave me in terms of inspiration, and who could possible quantify what he has given to aviation through those that aspire to be that kind of pilot.

My thoughts are with his daughter wishing her a speedy recovery.

Winstun

I had the doubtful pleasure of crossing swords with you a cuppla months ago. I thought you were a jerk then (Read..tosser) and certainly think you are doubly so today.
For all your bleeding heart concern for our cousins in the third world displayed before, (I am qualified to comment...PNG remember.??) you show scant concern for one of our own. Last time we faced off, you claimed you were a Pilot, but after this post I am certain you are not. You certainly don't give much info on your profile. Why not.??
If you are a family man, I desperately hope you are NEVER in the position of seeking help from your peers for something as desperately important as saving your child's life.
Have a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Is it a scam or is it for real? If this message appears on the ALPA site, it would have more credibility than of an unknown site to someone who resides outside the US.

Copied from elsewhere:
IF YOU DOUBT THE LEGITIMACY CHECK THESE SOURCES:

EMAIL FROM KIROTV:

"This story is indeed legitimate. I am an Assignment/Web Editor here at KIRO Television in Seattle, and we did the story on December 11th.

www.kirotv.com/health/270...etail.html

Thanks for your interest.

Steve Konen"

IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS CALL STEVE AT KIROTV SEATTLE, THE PHONE NUMBER IS ON THEIR WEBSITE.

ALSO:

THE ASSOCIATION OF FLIGHT ATTENDANTS

www.unitedafa.org/news/20031212_haynes.asp

GIVE THEM A CALL, I AM SURE THEY WOULD CHECK THEIR SOURCES BEFORE MOUNTING AN APPEAL ON WEBSITE.

ALSO:

www.transplants.org look for Patient Campaigns and click on Laurie Arguello. (Click on the link in the upper left to find Laurie’s name.)

I HAVE CHECKED. HER CAMPAIGN IS ON THE SITE. GO SEE FOR YOURSELF.

My suspicions are that Capt Haynes is a hero one can be statistically assured of...

Does anyone remember a C4 documentary where they stated over 100 pilots tried his predicament in the sim and not one person survived on any flight? Or am I imagining that?

valid website???

I must admit, I just copied the letter from the APA (Allied Pilot's [American Airlines]} website. However, I did check that the transplant website was valid.
Laurie's name is listed as a patient. Just click the website and see for yourself.

I will be honoured just to be able to help this GREAT man in any small way. To the doubters and dissenters - Why bother? if you don't have anything decent to say, then don't say anything. This type of post is not "up for discussion' it is a heartfelt plea by fellow aviators to HELP one of our own. Not just anyone, but a truly GREAT man who performed an incredible feat against insurmountable odds. Capt. Al Haynes is a living Legend and should be accorded due respect there-in.

I am sure I speak for all when I extend our heartfelt best wishes to the man and his family, and hope that the right outcome is achieved.

Regards.

Quite right DanAir1-11. The website mentions that they are having difficulty accepting donations due to the response; I didn't find any difficulty though.

If we all give up the equivalent of just one celebration drink tonight, we’ll make someone’s Christmas very, very special

In isolation we can’t make a difference, collectively we can.

Merry Xmas to one and all, but especially to those who have a heart.

Worth repeating!

How's this for an idea: Members email BALPA with the suggestion of getting some of their more "reknowned" pilots to put their signatures on a bottle of bubbly. Once a few signatures are obtained the bottle can be auctioned off and the proceeds donated to the Haynes fund.

In view of the recent months events, I can think of a few captains / FEs that have been in the media, if their signatures were obtained the bottle could reach a record price.

Also, I'm fairly confident that services could be obtained gratis from the couriers needed to transport the bottle for signing, as well as a free bottle from an established well-known retailer, on a condition they and courier get a small mention on the auction details.

Just an idea...

Just posted the link on my weblog and am about to do the same on my employer's bulletin board.
I attended an AOPA Air Safety Seminar a few months ago presented by Capt. Haynes. It was very interesting and it would be nice to help his family.

I shall also post this in the FA forum, as there are many FAs who are as inspired by Captain Haynes' heroism as there are pilots.

I'm honoured to be able to help (even if only in a small way!) someone who has inspired me to do greater things, and appreciate every thing I have.

It's wonderful to see the target of $250,000 is getting closer, at the time of writing they have already raised $161,000 - great to see colleagues chipping in for each other and being supportive.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the Haynes family and everyone on Pprune.

I read with incredulity the mean-spirited comments of some on this thread. If you cannot add your words of support (AND a donation), then at least say NOTHING. Winstun, you in particular, and your 'crocodile tears' in regards to the worlds needy deserve contempt. nuf said.
