Angel Malaysian Law for expat F/O

Hi everyone,

Back in 2009, I was supposed to go flying in Malaysia, but I was told last minute that there was a law issued against the employement of expat F/O (like India before).
I was in fact looking for the official document to get the exact date of issue of that law.
I tried the DGCA but couldn't find anything, and for the governement I have to say it's always tricky!!
So I'm asking kindly here because I know you guys could find anything

Thanks a lot!!

Thomas

Query

Dear Capt 998sfe,

Believe me or not, I am afraid there is no official document released!

It is DCA Malaysia (they themselves enforced this). At that time, there was a closed door discussion in Putrajaya. It was all about ($) business making issue, and Transmile started first not to renew expat FO contract.

Ministry of Human Resources or Immigration Department has no control for foreign expat FO coming to Malaysia. In fact, they welcome foreign expat pilots.

998sfe is right.. they are protecting there own. Basically there are a huge number of CPL pilots in MAlaysia, cant get jobs, and there is not a lot airlines in malaysia looking for pilots..MAS and AirAsia..like there cadets. Some of these guys are also son and daughters government officials etc.. you get my drift.

Recently MAS did hire expat FO. but only type rated with hours on type. but now these guys are getting the chop.. since the restructuring of MAS.

Honestly Malaysia is not the best place for expat for pilots. best not to waste your precious time on earth with this place... if you have a grudge let it go.. find peace... you will never be accepted in as a FO in airasia or MAS.

If you really want to fly in malaysia.. the only way.. MARRY a malaysian woman and get PR. airasia will accept you.. MAS is another story..

Thanks for the replies!
I'm not dying to fly there, I had this opportunity and I just wanted to check out the "document" which forbid me to fly there, unfortunately it looks like there is no such document

Let's find something else then!

This is very true.

I have Malaysian friends, poor thing... no job for them. Wandering for 3 years, waiting to be hired.

Just like the Indians from India. Believe it or not, tons of Indians went back for farming when they can't get themselves in bull**** Indian aviation industry.

Terribly over saturated in India aviation market and nothing stop the Indians from flying. Isn't stupid wasting money to learn flying?

There is no such thing closing other flight schools.

Droste...

I do know about malaysia...live there many years...I have to friends in Airasia.. expats.. was working for Airasia, before DCA ruling..got told to leave...but got hired after they married to very nice malaysian women, they loved.. now they there are still in airasia.... if you want evidence goto airasia ask them, easy to find.. I cant give evidence beside that otherwise that privacy thing.

First Officer
A valid DCAM ATPL/Frozen ATPL with valid instrument and type rating
A valid DCAM medical certificate. (Class 1)
Holds a valid malaysian flying licence issued by DCA Malaysia
Malaysian Citizen or Malaysian Permanent Resident

HOW DO YOU GET Permanent Resident?....

Easy.. Spouse of Malaysian Citizen

· The applicant is married to a Malaysian.
· The applicant had been issued with the Long Term Visit Pass and stayed continuously in Malaysia for a period of five (5) years.

· The applicant is required to have one (1) Malaysian sponsor.

And if DATUK TONY likes you.. your PR.. is expedited.

And think most flight schools in malaysia are still backlogged with students.. but no where to go.. for the next few..maybe if TF get more planes. .. actually arriving into LCC and dont go by the ordering figures MAS sinking ship...sadly to say.

But in my travels I have spotted a fair number of non Malaysian A320 pilots at Air Asia and non Malaysian ATR-72 pilots at FireFly . . . were they hired by mistake?

Droste, negative. The only surviving flight schools in Malaysia are MFA in MKZ, HMA in LGK, APFT in KBR as well as KISTAA in TGG

This proven you really do not know about Malaysia.

Let me give you enlightenment.

There is no such thing as Malaysian PR. You need to do reasearch. Too easy to give answer. Hah...

Malaysian Air-Operators hired typed-rated guys as FO.

Not those 250 hours guys from UK, Australia, New Zealand, & etc.

Read my post carefully.

I did not say anything bad about Malaysian flying schools.

My reply to Capt kwayai was, DCAM will not close other flight schools.

Malaysia does confer permanent residencies on foreign nationals, according to the Immigration Department. You either have to be a high net worth individual, an expert, a professional or the spouse of a Malaysian citizen.
Immigration Department of Malaysia - Entry Permit
Portal Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia - Entry Permit
Hope that helps.

This is only for "show".

Malaysia PR do not exist at all. Till now, I have never came across anybody granted with Malaysia PR.

Malaysia is NOT like Singapore (giving Singapore PR & Citizenship to Tom-Dick-Harry foreigners like water).

May be somebody can try to apply for Malaysia PR. I shall wait and see it works or not. Hah...

also, one needs to have contacts etc to get 5 year social visit pass. I've read bunch of stories of people only being able to renew the 1yr again and again. Quite belittling, hving to go there every year with spouse as well.

Besides Air Asia, anyone got helicopter experience? Not enough heli pilots (I fly both FW and RW) but Awan Inspirasi recruiter wont' deal with me despite my 'Malaysian links', ehrm, for copilot jobs. Needless to say that my email enquiries aren't replied either.

rexy mainaky got PR, and they even offered Vijay Singh a malaysian passport because he is married to a Sabahan. Like they said, high net worth individuals or someone that contribute to the country. These, including the Pinoys and Indonesians in Sabah, so that they can vote for the ruling party and the Burmese, Bangladeshis and Indonesians (again) in Peninsular. Google Bersih's demand for fair electoral process.

In AirAsia they have one Iraqi captain (a PR) and his son just joined the circus as SO (graduated from local flying school).

Droste, that's what the red identity cards (now called MyPR) are for. And there are lots of those around so permanent residency does exist.

MartinCh, I think there's a 10-year resident pass for highly skilled expatriates now. It's not tied to any employer so the holder can move around during the valid period. The Malaysian government also announced sometime last year it would try to make it easier for foreign nationals to obtain and renew work passes but not sure if anything's changed yet.

Sorry 696, would you be so kind to explain in more detail why you think that?
