KAL 777 F/O Rishworth Contract

Hi,

Am considering the 777 F/O NTR commuting Contract with KAL (Rishworth).

Am a current 767 F/O.

For those out there who are currently on this contract or have done it, can you shed some light on the following questions.

1. Do they honor their statement of 9 days off/month + 2 annual leave days=11 days off in a row straight?
2. As far as commuting from any port on the KAL network, is the paxing ticket for F/O's economy or business?
3. What are guys generally earning each month after tax?
4. Who is the 777 type rating done by?
5. What's the flight deck like? i.e what are the crews like to work with as an F/O? Does the F/O get any flying (sectors....takeoff's/landings etc)

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Tempo... You had better a lot of reading about KAL and RAL.

I looked into it once (a few years ago) and the end result was NO WAY! As a Capt at KAL it wasn't good and as FO I think you could be in for a VERY VERY tough time. Lots of horror stories out there. No need for me to repeat them as I can't speak from first hand experience.

Now add to that the WORST recruitment agency in the world (from my direct experience) and it just gets harder. Your contract with that scum RAL is not worth the paper it is written on. Again, do some key word searches.

Good luck with your decision. Just go in eyes fully open, that's all.

Tempo asked:

1. Do they honor their statement of 9 days off/month + 2 annual leave days=11 days off in a row straight? Yes.

2. As far as commuting from any port on the KAL network, is the paxing ticket for F/O's economy or business? CA & FO in Business Class.

3. What are guys generally earning each month after tax? Depends where you live.

4. Who is the 777 type rating done by? Your agency can provide a list of global training locations. Boeing (formerly Alteon) is commonly used for NTR pilots. Costs vary from $14000-20000US depending on your experience.

5. What's the flight deck like? The 777 flight deck is actually a 767 flight deck upgraded with all flat panels and new interior.

6. What are the crews like to work with as an F/O? The first group of foreign 777 FOs (1 qualifed and 3 NTRs) are now completing their line training. I had one complete his observation flight with me and they are enjoying this opportunity.

7. Does the F/O get any flying (sectors....takeoff's/landings etc) Yes but these aircraft mainly do long haul flying so take off and landings are limited with double crews on each sector.

This airline has the same pros and cons as anywhere else. The 777 operates to SYD which allows many KAL crews to spend extra time at home on layovers.

Good luck!

Blues Deville stated: The first group of Expat-F/O´s......

Yes they are in the mill and most likely they will make it thru. Like most F/O´s before. If you are honest then you tell the people as well there is no plan to upgrade any F/O in the future. Despite the transition KAL did in the past with some A300-600, MD11, B747 Classic and some B737 Captains there is no plan to transit anybody to anything else internally. That means that You stuck where you are hired for.

Where are the F/O´s who got hired and made it thru the training of 2008? and 2009? Some of them left again for AirAsia, Qatar and and and and.....

If you want to do yourself a favour, do not leave a secure job as long as the climate is like at the moment. Despite the hiring and now two interview weeks per month the number of Expats declined from over 400 by more then 10% within a short time.

I do not want to wash the dirty clothes here but it is not fair to lure somebody out of a position to take a uncalculatable risk in spending time and money to get rated and then bonded later from KAL thru the Agency to learn that he/she does not suit the LIP and then there are thousand reasons easily found not to pass the candidate.

The fallout of the interviews this week was tramendous as well. If the number is correct then the majority failed it to make it into the crop.....

It will work for some people, remember KAL has some Cannuks there since 18 years and they do the job and go home. After the time off they come back to work, collect the money, be happy for another round then the next pattern of days off is waiting with time away from the gossip in the ranks.

Alot of outfits try to cope the commuting system that KAL has established and successfully practiced in the past. There is even some economical benefit in it. That could attract some Beancounters somewhere else if they would apply a more sensible concept. Then the money making would be another attraction. As soon as there is someone out who matches the numbers the gates will open.........

Fly safe and land happy
