Spicejet Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the many PM's I have received in the past few weeks, I thought I would write a few words about SG as I am unable to answer each and every PM that I have received. Contrary to what NG fellow has stated in a previous post I am still very much at SG, having completed 3 years. I just have not been on Pprune as much and have been busy with other aspects of my family life here in India.

I will try to be as objective as I can regarding the conditions here. I still maintain the the "flying group" here remains a great bunch of guys/gals. However the working conditions and relationship with HR/management remains far from favorable. Since the departure of some key folks, there has been a definite shift in employee relations, for the worse and it is fair to say that morale has gone down considerably. So much so that many Indian Captains and F/O's are simply waiting for their bond(s) to expire so they can join other Indian carriers such as Indigo or else go overseas. I have been quite vocal to the CEO/HR about this in many emails sent to them. However, my concerns have been noted with no change in policy.

Expat hiring. Still going on. Company is eager to get more Captains. Few takers. Summer is going to be a crunch month. Some expats not returning as they have other jobs lined up and are essentially just fed up. One expat Capt fired this week I was told for going to the CEO with pax complaints. New contracts are making Capts find their own place after 30 days with no base protection. Many will not renew their contracts because of this.

I think we have around 33 Expat Captains on the list, but it would be fair to say that only 24 or so will be around in the next month or two.

Is it worth coming here? It all depends on your individual situation. A JOB is better than NO job. For Age 60 guys, SG might be a good option. With the U.S. and other markets opening up, there are much better contracts/jobs out there. In India on the B737NG JetAirways offers a much better, stable contract. On the A320 I would have to say that Indigo would be the place to go.

Hope this helps. Best wishes to you all in your search for employment.

Nevrekar--Thanks for the write-up. Sorry I thought you had left incredible India.
Glad to have you back on Pprune. Your posts have helped many of us here. I think you seem to have a good handle on the situation at SG, and have reported accordingly without bias.

Nevrekar, you better brace for some incoming a la Mr K.

The Bawejas and Aggarwals are watching us all.

Just heard about a bunch of FOs who have applied at 9W and are willing to pay the bond and get outta this mess.

All the newly released captains are also bracing for a pay cut as HR continues to clamp down on crews.

I would like to think that what I have posted is factual and without any bias towards any party. I have written to the CEO, and the two folks at HR regarding some issues here and how they possible be resolved. Sadly, not much has been done. I have been very positive about SG in the past but have tried to remain balanced. Criticism at times can be helpful in changing an organization for the better.

Not exactly sure about what you mean by bracing for incoming from a la Mr. K.

Just an added piece of information. Anyone attempting to come to India, it may take you longer than usual (whatever that means) to obtain the necessary clearance and the all important FATA (Foreign Aircrew Temp. Authorization).
I have been told that even renewals are taking longer now, and even if you have been here for a while, it is not that quick anymore. The DGCA is reviewing each and every applicant carefully and doing the necessary credential/background checks etc. So it would not surprise me if it takes 4-6 months from the time you apply till the time you are actually in the seat.

Thumbs down

Hi Folks,

Just met a Senior crew who put in a 3 month notice to resign. Spicejet stopped her pay immediately. She worked another month sending in requests and hoping to have the issue settled. They didn't budge; she just gave up after the second month and quit. But when she got a lawyer to send the CEO a notice for litigation, she had her pay check pronto. She has operated as my crew and I know her to be a decent girl.

Things seem to be getting really ugly......

Its unbelievable that an Expat was fired for bringing forward passenger woes! Are all private firms devoid of morales, or is this a phase SpiceJet is going through?

I myself had a bad experience, as a passenger, right from the ticketing and all the way up 2 their state-of-the-art aircraft !!!!!

Clearly employees, passengers and aircraft condition isnt "happy!"...question is..then who is?! Why such delay in improving/ changing policies for the better, even when the discontent amongst all is so well known?
