I would choose Air china

Hainan current process:

1.CAAC ATPL medium dificulty, just prepare in 15 days
2.CAAC Medical. Tough
3.Sim (4 hours ). Tough.
4.ICAO IV (they used to have their own facility, now closed due to cheating to CAAC with their own´s pilot ICAO IV level) Medium difficulty.

At this point you are contracted through an agency ( GPS is biggest).

5.VISA medical (can cause as much problems as CAAC one) Tough.
6.SOP check (8 trainig sessions+ 1 checkride) Tough check.
7.Special 45 min check for all company captains (due to the Henan accident) This is where they are failing a lot of captains now. TOUGH
8.Line training (usually a minimum flights RH seat+ flights LH seat+1check). Medium.

You can be failed in any of this 8 parts, I know people sent home on each of them. Last year 50 pilots tried 737, only 4 flying, some offered a copilot job. I would say chances to pass all are around 15%-20%.

If you have a current job, consider seriously going to Hainan before resigning, any fail after being contracted can send you home (several did).

The roster is WEEKLY, yes WEEKLYĦĦĦĦĦĦĦĦĦĦ every friday night, when they comply...sometimes on sunday.

You can be fined with 500 USD almost for any reason like not maintaining the crew in line while on the way to the aircraft, not wearing a hat, QAR´s, etc...there is a list...with prices.

Just 10% of them speak english. But they fly everywhere like this.

The salary is not exactly as stated in the offer. Be careful.

Some like the recruitment responsible guy Adam Liu do no care much and do not infor much about anything going around to you.

And now, good luck if you like to try ĦĦĦĦĦĦ

I would say Hainan is a kind of non-serious, and chinese Korean Airlines

These people are liars !! They will do it to your face as if it is normal practice.
But no worse than any other in this part of the world.
Yes I have worked for them.
Forget about bonuses, "coming pay rises", " better rosters coming " etc etc. Work on worst case scenario pay and condition wise and you won't be as disappointed.
The pollution in this part of the world has to be seen to be believed, it has the abilty to make you seriously ill or even kill you.( and your loved ones )

good luck !

why don't you leave

hongkongfooey

every country and every city has it's own problem. if job and pay was so good in your country, why did you leave in the first place? let me guess, is it you were furloughed? or trying to get some jet experience? maybe pay increase or trying to escape from the tax authority? i think too much to list.

yes, these people lied, yes, the T/C changes overnight but it's happening on a daily basis even in the unionized airlines in the US!

make the best of it while you are working and it is a blessing in disguise because without these so-called 3rd world airlines, you probably would not have the jet time or a big salary increase, etc...

JUST BE GRATEFUL

Etops, I left a good job in my country with 14000hrs, most of it jet, most of it command, partly due to the massive bull5hit I was spun.

I am a classic case of " the grass is always greener .... "

Now I am going home to a job that pays way less than I am getting with a well known HK carrier, and could'nt be happier.

In the meantime if I can stop anybody making the same mistake I did, well and good.

Oh, and Hainan pay less than a LCC in my country, so I found out when it was too late.

That's because Hainan doesn't care to hire anyone. They will hire a short list of those willing to bend over backwards and take it in the poop shoot...in other words...those who are willing to accept everything they didn't promise.

Once you start a file with Hainan...even doing the medical....you are their bitch...which means you can't now go to CSA.

Common pilots....don't come here and complain..you that stupid. You get what you deserve. If you couldn't figure this out I certainly woudln want you as a pilo up in the front s at problem solving life and death matters.

Not sure where they stand, but I assume its like CSA.

So not much hope for "grass is greener" however different bird and base with all new culture...

Anyone been for the screenings?

Good for you.

I was invited for Nov too but cant make it so it will be early next year I suppose.

Anyone else who has any input about moving to Hainan airlines? Rostering still poor? Staff travel?

Any Hainan employees around here???
