as far as I know, there are NO expat F/O in SIA. all F/Os are on local term (no matter where you come from).

You are right. There are currently no expat FOs in SQ mainline. The last as mentioned earlier switched to local terms and got his command a few years ago. There are, however, expat FOs in SQ cargo.

Very naive of you to state SIA does not/has not ever received financial assistance from the govt. SIA is a very important part of the Singapore Government's foreign and economic policy hence is supported vigorously. However not in an overt manner which is why you say what you say I guess.

I suppose you would also say Emirates doesn't float on a sea of oil.

I am naive maybe on other matters but on this I am certain. Not quite certain but absolutely certain. SQ indeed is an integral part of the Sg government's grand scheme of things and the company has no doubt benefited from this fact in other ways but I am absolutely certain and the external auditors who do the SQ annual accounts can vouch for this, that SQ has never received any form of financial aid from the government. This is common knowledge, maybe not within the airline industry but certainly among air transport research analysts in the broking houses and other financial instituitions.

The largest shareholder is Tamasek Investments, which is the investment arm of the Singapore Government.

The inference that SIA has gotten money from the government is a little misleading. If anything it's quite the opposite. Tamasek insists on a certain level of return and as the largest shareholder is quite demanding of that return. All of the profit sharing is done after the dividends are paid.

Other than the purchase price of the stock which flows to the company (assuming it was purchased at the initial float), there has been no financial investment in SIA by the government. Certainly their policies are designed to promote air transport in
Singapore, but there are now a few other airlines that Tamasek has an interest in.
