Very naive of you to state SIA does not/has not ever received financial assistance from the govt. SIA is a very important part of the Singapore Government's foreign and economic policy hence is supported vigorously. However not in an overt manner which is why you say what you say I guess.
I suppose you would also say Emirates doesn't float on a sea of oil.
