SQ Cargo
Appreciate any info from current/previous employees regarding this operation, particularly rostering. Do they roster double crews all the time like China airlines?
Are the FTL's reasonable?

one certainty
Very very few chance of double crew.
they love, 3-P ops... with 2 FO's.
So the capt usually get's no rest at all,
for 2 sectors flights.
As for rostering,
- why not join and find out..

I agree with 'speedtwoten'.
this co has a bad habit of changing
terms in the contracts after they are
signed.
Plus, it loves to use contracts to
smack whoever questions their
actions of changing it.
Be very careful of the 'dark - side'

offering other conditions
Hello!
This guys are offering positions thru the cadet pilot program on local conditions; so they call an expat pilot with good airline expirience and they offer a position to begin licence conversion and type rating but the catch is that you are only a cadet pilot and you earn only 1600 Singapore dolars for 6 to 8 months, and at the end you join as local pilot but on the contract you states that for the captain transition if a Singaporean is in same conditions as you, he will upgrade first; so you are local only for the salary and the rest of the conditions but without the local priviledges.

Izco It is a fact of life in Singapore, (and many other places too!), you, as a foreigner, regardless of the contract, be it local or expat. will always play second fiddle to a Singaporean, (or any national in other airlines), that is the price you pay for seeking employment in a foreign country, you have to learn to live with it or stay at home.

I would disagree with IZZO.
GOV of SIN who own SQ, will not condone such actions.
Everyone has equal chances for movement.
Even the guys who turned OFF all the hyd-pumps on a
340 at FL-330 got moved to the 744.
In SQ everyone feeds the meat-grinder equally.
---- as for the life here on the isla?.. live is always good.
since when is it bad on this island.
---- Please do not hope to compare wages..
SQ is in category (S).. meaning only in singapore

I heard that the T & C's had improved to be similar to SQ mainline - if so what exactly is the problem. I had a look at SQ a while ago and with being married and taking the housing and school allowance it looked to me like S$20,000 plus per month. If you forget about good old days of CX 'A' scale etc that is not bad - where else is better excluding places where you have to leave your family behind or live/work in some god forsaken rat hole

You heard wrong that T & C's at SQ Cargo had been improved to match Mainline but don't take my word for it. Come and join and see for yourself.
If T&C's were the same they would not be operating as a totally separate company as it is done to save money.
If you add on accommodation allowance and education allowance then you may well get a gross sum of $20,000 Sing Dollars but deduct tax of $30,000 pa and say $36,000 pa for accommodation and that leaves you with $14500 per month out of which you have to pay school fees. You will need a car if you have kids with all the running around that is involved. Schools are on the West side where it is more expensive, Do you know what it costs to buy a Toyota in Singapore?? About 4x what it costs in UK!! I suggest you do your sums again.

Thanks Millerscourt for replying. I've seen the tax and know about the cars. With the 14.5K left I'd have to take off another 3000 for the schools (2 kids) and lets say 2500 for a fairly decent if not new Toyota. Still left with 9000 per mth or at present about £3000. Meanwhile the house in home country can be let out bringing in some more income each month.
For comparison and looking at the UK, a fairly average line capt pay after tax is about £3600 - minus say 700 for the mortgage, 180 for council tax, 90 for gas and electric, 500 for running a fairly decent not new car, 17.5% VAT on everything you buy, petrol at about 79p per litre etc etc............................
So is SQ or SIA Cargo really that bad?

SQ Mainline is OK just if you are on several service increments and in the CPF scheme.
SQ Cargo I would not touch with a bargepole.
A lot of Positioning ( In Economy ) regardless. and you are a second class Pilot compared to Mainline and it could get to you after a bit I suspect.
When I say $3000 per month for accommodation. This would be minimum for a nice 3 Bed Condo and if it is going to your home rather than quarters as you are letting your house at home then you would probably want better and more expensive than that.
Electricity for A/C is quite high unless you like sweating a lot.
What you need to rememeb is over a long period as inflation bites into the pay it never gets increased to take this into account.
Exchange Rates for any savings also need to be considered. Could you cope with say a further 10% decrease in the value of the Sing Dollar??

Just to clairfy things. The terms at SQ cargo are just about indentical at SQ mainline. There is no positioning in economy, no more than at mainline.
The two big areas now are pass travel, we get only ID 75 v ID 85 and no pay for positioning. Positioning for me has been less than 10 hours/mo, normally around 4 or so.
There is a new package that goes into effect on 1 March that has a big change in the terms. Rumor has it there is another "enhancement" coming.
If you want more info, PM me.

So SQ Cargo is getting close to Mainline? Well that is hardly a ringing endorsement is it ? At least for anyone from UK Euroland Oz or even NZ as the Sing Dollar has collapsed against these over the past 2 years.
The 744 is no longer the meal ticket it once was and when the A380 arrives even less so.
I can see the appeal of this job for those who are coming to the end of their flying careers and are financially secure and just want a change, especially if you are used to intensive IT flying it makes a welcome break. Not a job in my opinion as a long term career move.
