Hi ChuaJ,

I'm sorry I cannot be of much help, but I believe it helps as you would have the technical knowledge and experience, and even the right 'pilot' attitude. Worth a try. Anyway, in the application they have a portion for you to state your flying experience, so I think it helps.

Regards

thank u tango.
I have another question,
is there a requirement or preference Sia has for graduate degrees? I'm considering between studying engineering and economics. I'm afraid if i take economics it might affect my chances of getting into sia

Hello ChuaJ,

Their requirement is I think a Diploma, thus, a degree would likely be an added advantage. You should check out their Career Psoting at www.singaporeair.com under Careers, Technical Positions for the detailed requirements like eyesight, education qualifications etc.

I'm not a pilot, not even a cadet pilot yet, just someone who has gone for the 1st interview and waiting (eagerly) for their reply. So cannot really comment.

Regards.

Chuaj:

Your chances in getting into SIA really depends on your previous experience, like how long did you join for, what aircraft type(s) you flew, how many hours you logged and why and when you got terminated. I am one myself, and yet, I know of another who did not clear the 2nd interview.

As for your choice of study, it will certainly help if you are technically inclined, as having an engineering degree will help in understanding most of the aviation subjects, especially technical ones. Having said that, there are also many Economics / Finance graduates who do well in SIA, so, up to you to decide.

EchoPapa:

Right now, it is the company's stand that trainees are highly recommended to own their personal laptops. This is because most of the documents will be issued in CD-ROM format. And yes, there is internet access available, going for approximately A$1 per hour of use. This may change in the future, but for now, that's the rate. There are also phone available for you to call home, you just have to purchase your own calling card, and just dial from there. Downside is that there are only 2 phone shared among 100 trainees... so, gotta share.

Hello Limpeh,

1) What kind of questions did you get on your 1st interview do you remember?

2) Since I'm applying for Cadet Pilot, which I take that I will be training to be a pilot, it felt like SIA will only accept candidates who has a certain level of aviation knowledge? As I certainly don't have much, but am more than willing to learn for the profession.

3) How long did you wait before you received your reply? 3-4 weeks? The wait is killing me.

4) How different are the 2nd and 3rd interviews compared to the 1st? If no diff, why have so many then, in your opinion?

5) Did those guys who were not selected from your batch receive any notification?

6) Are you flying with SIA already?

Regards

Question

Hello All..

This is my first post here.. I am from Malaysia and have sent my application form 2 weeks ago. I have some doubt about the interviewing procedure. Hoping one can help me on these..

i) If they consider me to interview, will they just call me go Singapore for interview or call me only if they have interview in KL?

ii) As I know, there is walk-in interview from time to time at SQ headquarter. Do anyone know how can I know, through internet, if there is a walk-in?

Really thanks a lot..

Tango Tangi:

(1) I got very basic questions, none of which are technical (I come from a technical background). Asked me about my previous flying experience, what degree course I studied, why I want this job.. etc.

(2) The questions that are directed at you are to gauge YOUR interest in the job. If you are keen on aviation, then you would naturally read up on the subject. Main thing is: they want to see that you are interested. If you are not interested, then they are also not interested in hiring you. There are people who drop out voluntarily during the training phases, some had to pay liquidated damages, so... this first interview is to siphon out the "keen" and the "not so keen but willing to try" kind.

(3) Can't remember how long it took me, but I submitted my application in December, and got the interview in Janurary. Din have to wait very long.

(4) There are 2 rounds of interviews, the first round is conducted as mentioned earlier... basically, they just want to be sure that you can proceed to the next round of interview. As for the second interview, that's where the main assessment begins. You'll be assessed on teamwork, initiative, leadership, ....etc. If you fail this round, you cannot try again. Period.

(5) Yes, usually you will get notification, but it depends on which stage of interview you're at. For example, if you are waiting for the first interview, you may not get a "rejected" notification. However, if you have completed the first round of interview, they will let you know (in a couple of weeks) whether you can come for the next round, or you can try again later.

(6) I am still in the training programme, will be moving on to the big jets soon though. Most likely 777 fleet.

Hope these answers help.

Limpeh,

Thank you very much for your reply and opinions. Appreciate it. Have fun in your training and I'm sure it would be such a thrill to be part of the 777 fleet pilots.

Regards.

Hi ChuaJ,

Nope, I'm a Diploma holder. Not technical based.

LimPeh,

What questions are typical in the 2nd and 3rd interviews? How many interviewers are there in your 2nd and 3rd interviews?

Tango Tango:

There are only 2 rounds of interviews, conducted on two separate days. The first interview is basically to weed out the interested and the not so interested. There are usually 2 interviewers for this round.

The second round of interview is conducted by a panel of about 5-6 interviewers, of which 4-5 of them would be management pilots, and as for the questions, most of them have been covered here in this forum, just do a quick search and you'll find it. There is even a good writeup on the entire interview process somewhere in this forum. Do read it if you can.

LimPeh,

Thank you very much, will definitely do so.

Hi guys, from your earlier postings, I see that you guys have made it? So happy for you.

I had my 1st interview on Friday 13 May, till today no news, from your experiences it seems that I am waiting for my Rejection Letter from them?...

Did you guys receive the notification via email or snailmail? I am checking my mailbox every so often, hoping to see a notification for my 2nd interview...the wait sucks...

Nonetheless, thank you all so much for maintaining this thread, it has been most insightful and informative, not to mention the nice encouragement every now and then.

Thanks. Wish me luck.

Regards

tango tango,

sorry to hear that you have been waiting so long, and i really hate to say this but i think you could possibly be waiting a bit longer(who knows?). coz the latest batch of Malaysians for SIA Cadets most made it thru, and after talking to the staff at the training center there are approx 3 batches per year for malaysians in the 2nd round and one just finished yesterday.

anyway its probably a good time to do research and prepare, and if you do get turned down its way better than being turned down in the 2nd round after which you will have no chance of reapplying. so you can reapply and chances are high of getting reselected and you can nail it the second time around.

but i would expect you might have to wait for a good while i would say perhaps august? or you might get a call up tommorow? the airlines are in limbo so you never know.

the wait can be very nerve wrecking, just do stuff to keep your mind off it, its good practice because if you do get called up for the second round, your nerves will be surely be tested

all the best!

Hi,

I went for my 1st interview on 13th May and received the reply on 24th May, notifying me that I have not been selected.

So for those of you who are applying, it's a bit of info for you regarding the time frame it takes for them to notify you of your results and for those who've made it for the 2nd interview, best of luck and keep going!

Regards. tangotango
