when an aeroplane is flying with an airspeed which is 1.3times its basic stalling speed, the coefficient of lift as a percentage of the maximum lift coefficient would be ?? 
and = 59%

when you fly at Vs you are flying at the optimal AOA that is to say the CL max.at that weight. therefore if you fly at 1.3 X Vs you are flying at a lower AOA or Lower CL max than at Vs . now from the Lift equation we have L= CL 1/2 p V(squared) S, (Not taking to account the Constants) we have CL = L/V (squared) so. assuming Vs = 1 then Cl= 1/(1.3) squared = 1/1.69 = 0.5917 multiplying by 100 gives you percentage which equals 59%

Doubt_Principles of flight
Hi Folks,
Posted this in the ATPL questions section without much luck .. please do explain if you have a better understanding here .
i was going through the Oxford ATPL, Principles of flight and found a few statements which, i cant seem to understand. I feel they contradict each other so please advice if i'm reading it wrong.
1. Chapter- Drag > Parasite drag> skin friction
"Because of the adverse pressure gradient existing on a curved surface, the transition point will be further forward than if the surface was flat"
2. Chapter- High Lift Devices> Leading Edge Flaps
"On high speed aerofoil sections the leading edge may have very little camber and have a small radius. This can give flow separation just aft the leading edge at quite low angles of attack"
Now which of the above is right and is there something i'm missing in the above concepts?
Also - i dont seem to see the definition for Form drag : "Because of separation there will be a lower pressure at the trailing edge than the leading edge. An aerodynamic force will act in the direction of the lower pressure - form drag"
How would this be a drag if there is airflow from the leading to the trailing edge? wouldnt this infact contribute to the thrust for the aerofoil?
I understand the concept of adverse pressure gradient but the above reason has been quoted as a separate factor.

Navigation, convergency.
Hi,
I'm unable to solve a particular type of problem on convergency and conversion angles.
here's a sample - kindly let me know the process if you're able to solve them.
The GC bearing of position B in latitude (30 00 S) from Position A (30 00S 165 00E) is 100deg T
What is -
a. the GC bearing of A from B?
b. the longitude of position B?
Similarly - The initial GC track from C (36 00 N 15 00E) to D in latitude 42 N is 300deg T and the final track at D is 295deg T
a. What is the longitude of D?
b. What would be the approximate track direction at 11E ?

Ans. 1 a)
As both points A and B are on same latitude....
R/L track from A to B is 090
R/L track from B to A is 270
As we know G/C track from A to B is 100
C.A.is 10 degrees
hence G/C bearing from B to A is 260 as both the points are in southern hemisphere.
b)
Now Conversion angle is 10 and convergency is twice of conversion angle=20
Now apply convergency formulae and find out the dlong
20= D.Long X Sin 30
Hope you can solve from here and find the longitude of B......
Ans. 2 a)
convergency = Difference between both the great circle tracks
which is here = 300-295 = 5
now again convergency formulae
5=d.longX sin39
Find dlong and then Longitude of D........

Sincere apologies if I'm bringing down the spirit here. It is disturbing to see this happen frequently. One person gets the invitation for the IndiGo selection test and then things go berserk in this forum. Everybody wants to know when they got the email, how they got it and who sent it. Is it really necessary? Why don't you guys wait for their email, rather than crying over it and polluting this forum. I was not called for the exam last month. Simple solution - just write to them and wait patiently for your turn. It will eventually come.
