Canadian RT

I will need a Canadian Medical, Candian CPL( Have to clear a Canadian Regs exam) and Pass a Canadian RT EXAM. After this it is a direct conversion to Indian RT right? No part 1 and Part 2? More info please.

There is no provision for "conversion" of any foreign FRTOL's to Indian RT's.

The only way you can get an Indian RT (The pink booklet) is by clearing both part 1 and 2 exams conducted by WPC.

However, yes ... with the Candian CPL, Canadian Medical and Canadian RT, you're eligible for applying for an Indian RTR(P) (a permit) without having to appear for any WPC exams .. if that is what you meant by "conversion".

Hey Shanx thanks for the quick reply. What I wanted to ask was, is there any way to avoid the RT part 1 and part 2 in India. How long is this "permit" valid for and will it cause any issues when I am trying to get my CPL converted after clearing all the papers. Thanks.

Hi aviatorvette,

This RTR(P) (permit) is valid for 3 years initially and can be renewed subsequently.

According to the latest circular by WPC, you can now apply for a 10 year or life time permit.

You will not face any problems in your conversion with this permit.

Actually, most people confuse RTR(P), RTR(C) and RTR(A) as being the same thing.

RTR(A) = The actual Indian RT .. aka COP RTR(Aero)

RTR(P) = COP RTR(P) .. aka Permit based on candidate possessing valid commonwealth CPL and RT

RTR(C) = permit issued to candidate on the basis of having a commonwealth RT only (no CPL from that commonwealth country) and having cleared part 1 exam of WPC.

@ Shanx, thanks a lot for the valuable information... It is now embedded in my brain .

Speedbird, I am not trying to avoid the RT exam. Well I have been having a lot of trouble with the WPC people ever since I landed in december from USA, they have rejected my application once, the second exam was approved and they gave me a date for the RT exam in Delhi on the same day as my Composite paper in chennai. They refused to change the RT exam date to another day, Finally after using some "influence". I managed to get the date changed to May 3rd, after receiving telephonic confirmation by Mr.VJ christopher. He had asked me to report to the exam center at 9 AM.

On May 3rd, they refused to let me appear for the RT exam claiming that there was no letter from VJ.They made me run around all day making phone calls, waiting in the heat outside for the chief examiner..Who finally arrived at midnoon. Chief examiner kept trying to avoid me, finally he met me and said that I could not give the exam. I managed to get him to talk to VJ on the phone and he faxed over the letter.Basically I was there from 8:30 am to 6 PM waiting for my turn without food, at 17:55 pm after every one was done with their exam, they called me in and messed with my head, couldnt understand a word the Examiner was saying, so I couldnt read back... They failed me on my RT attempt after so much torture..What I dont understand is, why would they ask me to report at 9 AM and then make appear last? I am applying for the Chennai attempt next month, I will work hard for it, If I dont pass it, I am going to Canada. I cannot deal with the corrupt sadistic people who treat us like dirt.

Canadian RT

Hi Guys I need help in finding out the validity of Indian RTR (P) issued on basis of Canadian RTR and Canadian CPL as per the new circular

The new Circular by WPC says:

'' Issue of RTR (Conversion) and RTR (Permit) certificates and their renewals shall be for a period of 20 years or till the validity of FRTOL licence/ CPL whichever is earlier."

Canadian RT is valid for Lifetime and Canadian CPL is valid till Canadian Medical. Normally the Canadian medical is valid for 5 years. SO according to above mentioned rule my RTR issued on basis of Canadian RT and CPL will valid for 5 years or 20 years?

If I keep renewing my Canadian medical after every 4-5 year ( before it expires) will my Indian RT will be valid for 20 years in that case ?????

hi
well canadian medical is valid for 1 year only
if u dont renew within one year ur cpl will be downgraded to ppl
so u have to renew ur medicals every year

however as u said canadian cpl is valid for lifetime so as canadian rtr

so u just need to renew ur medicals every year and u can enjoy ur indian rtr(p) till its validity

rig73alok,

Are you sure the Canadian CLASS 1 medical is valid for 5 years ???

Once 12 months have passed since your last medical, your Canadian CPL is no longer valid because in order to hold a valid and CURRENT Canadian CPL, you must be in possession of a valid and current Canadian Class 1 medical.
If you are over age 40, then your Canadian CPL is no longer valid once 6 months have passed since your last medical.

Im not very sure about the validity of Canadian medicals, but Im sure it would be on the lines of most Commonwealth nations.

Atleast according to this link (not sure if there have been any changes)
Part IV - Subpart 4 - Medical Requirements - Table of Contents - Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) - Regulations - Aviation Safety - Air Transportation - Transport Canada

Therefore, even if you directly apply for an Indian RTR(P) on the basis of having a Canadian CPL and Canadian RT, you'll still need to keep renewing your Canadian Class 1 medical every 12 months till the age of 40 and every 6 months thereafter.

Guys Question is :

WILL I GET INDIAN RTR (P) VALID FOR 20 YRS OR 1 YR

Because new rule says
'' Issue of RTR (Conversion) and RTR (Permit) certificates and their renewals shall be for a period of 20 years or till the validity of FRTOL licence/ CPL whichever is earlier."

According to 'avalanche007' and 'shanx' and 'Transport Canada' CPL is valid till validity of medical and Medical is valid for 1 yr after that it downgrades to PPL and as a PPL it is valid for 60 months.

the wpc circulars mention that it is necesary to have a valid cpl and frtol. there is no mention of "current" cpl/frtol or otherwise. your canadian cpl is valid for lifetime. your cpl does not seize to be valid just because your medical is expired. you cannot exercise the privileges of your licence of course, with out a valid medical, but your cpl remains valid.

furthermore, in order to convert/renew your rtr permit, there is no requirement to provide a copy of your medical.

example: the wpc circulars mention that "' Issue of RTR (Conversion) and RTR (Permit) certificates and their renewals shall be for a period of 20 years or till the validity of FRTOL licence/ CPL whichever is earlier." Previously, the wpc has been granting a 3 year permit based on a converted rtr. The class 1 medical of most (if not all) countries is valid for a maximum of 1 year. Therefore, if it were a requirement to have a valid medical in order for your cpl to remain valid, then the WPC could not issue a permit for a period of 3 years, let alone 20/lifetime. All permits would be restricted to the date of expiry of the medical, instead of the cpl.

In short, there is no need to keep renewing your foreign medical.

Wikki the confusion is all because, If you see a Canadian CPL Licence on the front side of it. It is written

"The licence is valid only for the period specified in the medical certificate (Form 26-0055) which must accompany this licence.''

On CPL itself it is mentioned that it is valid till the medical validity. So how we can say that it is Lifelong Valid.

The New format for the Canadian License has been out for a year.
And the new license has a expiry date five years from Issue.

When is the next RT exam?

I applied for my COP/RTR a year ago and my file was sent to the Ministry of External Affairs because I have a New Zealand Passport. I called up WPC two months ago and my file was still there. I am in India right now, and I went to the MEA who very casually tell me that my file was never sent from the WPC. The WPC told me that the file was sent in Aug' 09. Then, I got WPC to send a reminder to the MEA about my application. Again, MEA says that my file hasn't reached. While I hear this, the guy is flicking through some applications and I see my name on a letter. So, they finally find my file but no clearance issued yet for me to use a radio aboard an aircraft in India. The process usually takes three weeks, it's been nearly a year. Well done MEA. Now, my conversion exams are going to expire in June, n I need an RT licence asap. So, I was wondering, when is the next RT exam?

well u cant straight away apply for indian cpl after that but u can apply for indian rtr and get an indian rtr and then apply for indian cpl
however there is a provision that if ur recency is expiring and u have applied for indian rtr but u havent got one then u can apply for indian cpl but then u will have to give a cover letter stating that ur indian rtr is still under process
in that case dgca will accept ur application but wont issue ur cpl until u give them ur indian rtr
