...Why should I constantly have to chase them for information that they should provide out of courtesy?
Because the world does not evolve around you matey. You would be the last thing on there minds at the moment.

This would be the perfect example of how not to treat potential future employees!
Geezzz, You haven't even started and you have an attitude. Should be fortunate that you got an interview and passed considering that there are thousands of people who would love to at least get that opportunity!

Anyways Ive pretty much given up hope as I'm potentially deemed to expensive in that Im not willing to live in HK on a cadet package!
Then why kick up a fuss? Move on!

Yeah, you have to email them asking for information. I did this because I saw the posts on here and emailed them asking why I hadn't heard anything like others had. Their response was that the reason why they haven't sent a letter to everyone in the hold pool is because they are waiting to hear from management what they plan on actually doing with the hold pool itself.

So, the word is the training plan shows no DEFO recruitment in 2010, and the company's 3-year projection shows no DEFO recruitment until 2012.

Considering that most of us interviewed in 2008, the hold pool would be four years old by 2012. It is highly unlikely that any company would want to retain a hold pool for that long! And even if they did, I doubt anyone will be waiting around until then.

So, IMHO, forget about joining Cathay and move on. Not good news but what can you do?

3rd floor no where did I say that they owed me anything more than some common courtesy. Or should I be grateful that I've popped my life into limbo for the last year and a half?

Many other companies have managed to tell poolies what has been going on and even more told them sorry lads no luck apply again when we open up. Perhaps its just oh so hard to compose a mass email and tell everyone about it!

Considering that there is a large intake of international cadets going on at the moment you cant really argue that they are in crisis now can we?

Like I said before it doesn't take much to say sorry go away!

Have you ever thought that CX may not want to give you an answer because they would like their 'poolies' to start (at some time) plus they don't want to close the door on them as considerable time and money has already been spent.

Considering that there is a large intake of cadets going on at the moment you cant really argue that they are in crisis now can we?
Hmmm... clearly your not aware... cadets take presedence over DEFO's and DESO's for the reason you mentioned earlier plus it is a moral obilgation between CX and HKG government. Similar to SQ, EK.. the list goes on.

Like I said before it doesn't take much to say sorry go away!
True... As stated before, it doesn't take much to make a decision and move on.

Clearing up a misconception.

Just to clear up a misconception here. No International Cadet Pilot has been offered a job. They have been offered a course of flying training in Adelaide. That is all. If by the time they finish in Adelaide and CX still isn’t recruiting they go into the hold file like the DEFO/DESO hopefuls.

Last in First out

They may go into a hold but would be the first to be plucked out.
Even today CX are advertising for cadet applicants in the SCMP.

You may be right but the reality is we just don’t know what their plans are for the hold file.

It's Cathay's train set, they set the rules. If they don't feel it is prudent to send a mass email then Cathay will not send a mass email. Whether this is good communication or not, whether this upsets applicants or not, whether one or two, or many decide, to pull the plug on Cathay, it matters not to Cathay. Enough people want to apply, every year, enough people want to fly for Cathay every year, and guess what, it ain't gonna change.

So if this lack of communication means you think less of Cathay, then the guy behind you in the line will probably have a shot at Cathay earlier. So move over good buddy!
