I agree that with the program having expanded internationally, CX will be getting a lot more qualified applicants (some who are OVER qualified as you've mentioned)....but one problem is that there aren't that many applicants who have done their research about Hong Kong. Sure, you can get a basing elsewhere later on in your career but I know that you need to show that you are willing and able to leave your home country to work in Hong Kong (since all SOs are based in HK).
Take nothing away from the internationally qualified candidates - just saying that a lot of candidates fall when they face the questions about HK and leaving home...etc etc.
Also, looking at the capacity of their training base in Australia, I still think that the DESO and DEFO will continue in the future.
Just my 2 cents!

Good point about the lack of research but after the 9 page thread "For international candidates", a lot more will now be more educated on what to expect.
Another good point about the capacity at FTA. CX certainly makes the biggest group ahead of Emirates and Japan Airlines EX cadets. Cx should buy it!

Should be interesting to see how FTA handles the larger influx of CX cadets over this next year as quality of instruction and management practices is questionable nowadays. Sad really...

Also got the message from CX that there will be no recruitement at all in 2010and no direct entries until 2012... If ever! So much for passing the interview since you will only be in the pool for two years...

I asked for an update and got an email. As I mentioned, email stated DEFO and DESO recruitment suspended until 2012 according to 3 yr plan. HR still waiting to hear from higher-ups what to do with poolies (I was asking about DESO pool so I don't know if DEFO poolies are included).

This thread would not exist if Cathay hadn't decided to massively recruit international cadets.
I understand that during current economic situation we should all be lucky just to have our jobs and hope for better times. But, these cadets will start and be on line before we get anything resembling a start date even if their ab initio training takes 1.5 years.
They are being interviewed, accepted more than a year after s/o, f/o poolies got acceptance letters. Thats the issue. Obviously Cathay needs second officers, but for half the price.

Anyone know when CX will officially find out what to do with us in the pool? Or even when they might actually tell us something?
I'm gobsmacked that this is all second hand info with NO communication from the company at all in the last year and a bit.
Anyways let's wait and see I guess

flynhigh I suppose it would be nice to actually be told what the outcome will be with remaining in the pool instead of the hopefully we will have further information for you in the near future!
Why should I constantly have to chase them for information that they should provide out of courtesy? Im lucky in that Im flying at the moment but I feel sorry if some guys were pinning all their hopes on this.
Anyways Ive pretty much given up hope as I'm potentially deemed to expensive in that Im not willing to live in HK on a cadet package!
PS I have actually emailed them in the past with requests only to be fobbed off with the no news email and to then be told that they will communicate with me as information becomes available.. to me this seems to be some fairly large information!
