CPP Enquiries!!
I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before, because I'm sure they have been.
I skimmed around the two pages here but couldn't find the answer.
Can someone please clarify for me the following:
Eyesight! The huge myth surrounding pilots is that all of them have absolutely perfect vision. But I've read from numerous sources that it depends on the airline company. A post here says that CX has a lot of pilots with glasses. Is this true? I know pilots need a class 1 medical exam, which includes 20/20 vision but is optical aid allowed for the test? I read from a source the other day that some pilots can wear glasses in the cockpit, provided they bring an extra pair just in case anything happens. Some say that having LASIK or related eye surgery before applying is a big no-no, while some say different. I'm getting really confused, and I just want to know the requirements of being a CX cadet pilot. I have a little myopia and wear glasses.
I've read the post on "the ideal CPP applicant" and I understand CX chooses cadets of all backgrounds. I know that flying hours is not required, but what type of subjects in University would be preferred for applicants? I see alot of engineering degrees and aviation degrees for successful applicants. But problem is, I'm not really that big a maths person, hence not really into engineering and stuff; and there aren't any aviation degrees offered in HK. Can anyone give me some advice? Do some people make it to the CPP even before Uni?
I'm currently 19, living in HK and taking the HKAL next year. I really love flying and being a pilot has been my childhood dream. I'd really appreciate it if any pilot could take the time to chat with me, talk me through the details and clear up the confusions. Please PM me! i am also a wannabe but will try shed some light on the questions you have.
eyesight- as far as i know, eyesight correctable to 20/20 is fine, that i hope means myopia is ok.
they don't have a preference for what degree/ subject the candidate studied in the past. but in order for you to get hired, and hopfully be good at the job, you will have to digest alot of technical information about numerous aircraft systems (amongst other subjects...) It would be difficult if you are not interested in it. As for the level of maths required, the ability to do quick addition/subtraction/ multiplication/ division should be adequate for most operations (i think).

you knwo what, if you have so many uncertainties and confusion, just forget it.
i would suggest you to just apply and see if they respond you.
Just the interview and the appitude test themselves are worth going for a try. no harm to u

Hey there,
I don't much at all about the CPP but concerning eyesight, I like you have to wear glasses (only when say I am sitting at the back of a lecture theatre to view the board) and have 20/20 vision when I wear them..I reckon that so long as one has perfect vision with corrective lens then there is no reason as to why you couldn't become a pilot. I applied just the other day and I think you should just apply as well and not worry about such things untill need be

20/20 vision is NOT a requirement of commercial airline pilots. If you make it far enough into the selection process you'll undergo some medical examinations, and although they test your vision, they are not testing for 20/20 vision...they also do tests with your corrective lenses on. 20/20 vision is a requirement of air force/fighter pilots - not commercial.
There is no "set" subjects to take at university....the CPP accepts candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds - in terms of flying experience and in terms of academic subjects.
Though rare, there have been instances where candidates were successful in the application process right out of high school.

Just for your info. glasses are not the only criterion for for medical checks.....As said in the previous post, Having glasses is definitely not an issue as long as your distant vision can be corrected to 20/20, Your eyes are checked for a host of other issues.
The best you can do is to get a list of medical requirements of the aviation agency of your country and get yourself checked according to those standards by a known oculist.
