CX cadet: just received "THE EMAIL"

Attended the initial testing this week and was asked to go to the initial interview yesterday. Went there, interviewed. The interview went really well (at least that's what they appeared to be and I felt afterwards ). All the company questions were answered correctly ( i doubled checked afterwards). And I was being open and honest with my personal questions. I was telling myself if i dont pass this interview, i really would have no idea where it went wrong.

Today at 1200, I got CX's email saying that other applicants are chosen over me (I thought CXCPP isnt competitive based.) I am not happy of course. I am feeling extra bad that in the email they didnt even tell me to improve myself and to apply again, just told me wish me luck in my future.

After thoughts: maybe I was too honest (and said something to make them doubtful) and I am too enthusiastic that they think I am acting.

Just needing to vent this out now.

i know how you feel, been there done that.

it doesn't hurt to call them to ask why you failed. of course whether they tell you is another story, but i am sure they won't mind that you call.

sometimes you can fail interviews because of some presentation problems. your answers may have, due to one reason or another, failed to make their mark on the interviewer. do remember that they have to interview many people per day and when it's time to make a decision on who to pass and who to fail, you want to be remembered by the impression you gave them. if they don't remember you, you're out, no matter how qualified you may seem. this was my diagnosis of my own problem, hope it can be of a small use to you.

cheer up pal... it isn't over yet, not by a long straw!

Thanks guys for encouraging words. holdmetight, you are always helpful here and yr information had certainly helped me before.

I think I have a bigger problem at hand. After rethinking and rethinking about what I said in the interview, I think I gave some information that is conflicting and maybe seen as lying. (The rejection email implied that I dont meet their requirement. Honesty is certainly one of the requirements)

First, I was asked if I am looking for other jobs now. I honestly am not looking for other jobs now as I want to focus this month or so on CPP. I totally forgot that I submitted an application to CX for another position in Feb (this application was just to those "see what happens" type of application). I completely forgot abt that.

THEN (YES - I WAS THAT STUPID) I was asked when did I quit my job. That's what I said "When I am in HK, i phoned them about a week ago". THIS was actually for my payroll arrangement because the payroll is delayed for 2 weeks. The fact is that I told my manager in April that I was going to leave and arranged May 23 to be the last day. I gave my manager plenty of time to hire and to train a new person for the busy summer season (I worked with CX cargo in van). I have good relationship with all the managers and coworkers. I performed well during my work. I have zero reason to lie about anything.

I emailed CX telling them that I gave some conflicting information and I am willing to clarify and to submit proofs (reference from employers, instructors, cx employees that I worked with, etc).

I hope they'd consider this or at least remove me from the bad book so I will have a chance when i reapply.

Wish me good luck. If I screw up because of this, this would be the stupidest things that I've done in my life. And for all of you that will be going to interviews, learn from my STUPID MISTAKES.

To be honest, I dont think they will change the decision. It may well be other reasons than the one u have stated. Not being selected doesnt mean u are bad! Interview is like a game which u need a lot of luck. If the interviewers like u, no matter what crap u say, they may still think u are the suitable one. And, unfortunately, vice versa. Dont blame urself and dont try to pick out reason why u failed. It will only stress urself.
Try to prepare for the interview next year. In the mean time, do some more study, know urself well, prepare more. Next time u will make it!
U may think it's all bull****, but it's not. I have gone throught that years ago, and i failed at the last stage. It's even more traumatizing than ur situation! But believe me, dont loss ur confidence. Someday u will be flying again, just like me now. I am now with another major airlines.

PM me if u dont mind.

Vinnie,

Having tried out for the cathay CPP twice and been there and done that, I wouldnt worry about it or think about it too much anymore except jot down some stuff that you can improve on for your second attempt next year though there are no guarantees as the CPP is highly competitive.

There is also the Dragonair cadetship and Ive noticed that you do some sort of flying. You can always go through the traditional route of saving up money, getting your pilot's licence, working as an instructor and then charter then regionals then domestic/international airlines. I hear you saying "yes that but that route is very expensive"... well it depends how badly you want to be a pilot, i would imagine it would take about 2 years working full time to save up the fees for a licence and then work your way from the bottom and with the demand for pilots these days, the time spent in GA is no longer that long. So its really depends how badly you want to be a pilot and willing to forgo that new car etc and spend that money on your flying fees

Thanks guys!

My background is airport and airline ops. I worked for YVRAA and worked as airline cargo agent at YVR.

As for flying experience, I only did a flight at ZBB in a C172. T/O from Rwy 07, cruised around at 1500 ft (can't go higher coz of CZ), but got to do the t/o and landing. Definitely can't wait to get my hands on the yoke again.

My family is very supportive of me. I am going to stay with my family in HK, work and save up. Then go back to Vancouver to do my own flying. Would try cadet program again , but it's one of the ways to get into the cockpit. As for KA cadets, heard that KA maybe no longer offering it. I emailed KA to ask, still waiting for a reply.

Cheers!

A loss may turn out to be a gain. This is from old Chinese saying.
Also gained from my previous experience, sometimes "too enthusiastic " maybe not a good thing, it will affect your judgement, and "too enthusiastic " = subjective. being pilot, objective is needed, imagine the situation like that some lights turn on in your cockpit, lot of informations from your display, what can you do? Being subjective, means you are allowing your personal feeling strongly influence your act , it is not a good sign obviously.

Good luck mate! Just chilled!!
