I'm also from Vancouver and will be going to HK for the Jan 9th Cadet interview.

Energie.. where are you from?

Maybe we should all hook up prior to going back and juz pool our knowledge and help each other out?

Harry:

Your 18?? do you have prior flying experience cuz at that age.. it\'s almost impossible for you to be holding a degree... juz curious.

Hey all,

I'm also going through the cadet pilot selection process, currently in the 2nd round test/interview phase.

I'm also from Vancouver..haha. Well, more like I lived there for a number of years before moving back to HK couple of years ago. I'll be having my 2nd round on the 10th of Jan 2006. I hope I'll see you guys around! Hope we can all pass the selection process together!

cheers!

not really, at least not official records one
i volunteered at Boundary Bay and at Pro IFR Flight School and also i joined a club call Air Time Canada who teach teenagers from 13-18 to be a co-pilot on C172 and that's pretty much all the experience i have

Airtime Canada is a great program. That's great harry. I think they are looking for people like you.

I am from Vancouver as well

It seems like they are running a few interviews on Jan 9th and 10th.

I think this can be a collaborative effort. I know they are expanding and hiring relatively more in 2006.

Bought this book titled : How to prepare for your Cathay interview.

It was $40 down the drain.. I believe that book provides good info for DESO, but really nothing much for Cadets.

What books are you reading concerning airline interviews?

I am just about to get started on my Oral presentation. where did you find your info?

Would it be a good idea to meet up and chat before we head to HK?
I'm leaving on Jan 4th. when are you guys going>??

i'm getting info from varies sources
i know people who are Air Canada and WestJet Pilots, people from BCIT aviation program and i'm reading books from the library regarding airline interviews
most of the books i read are from people who have experiences already but it's not a bad idea to read them though because they have facts that i don't even know about till now

if any people feel like to meet up before leaving to HK, then we should set a date and location.

i'm leaving on Dec. 31 - midnight flight, going to spend my new year on 747 LOL

I have a few books in Aviation psychology.. Dont seem to be much use.. so I guess I'll head to the library and look for some "airline interview" books.

I live in Burnaby, but meeting anywhere is fine. We should go grab a coffee, bring out books and whatever material we are using as study material and juz share whatever knowledge we have.

Juz to make it easier for you guys to recognize me, I'm a 22 Chinese Male 5'8", short black hair.
(hahhaha, sounds like a match maker)

ttyl

Juz came out of the SFU library. Couldn\'t find a single book concerning Airline Interview.
Harry: If you dont mine, could you give me the title of the books your reading??

Thank you!

Super: Did we happen to run into each other during this term's campus recuritment at SFU? I recall someone fitting your description at the CX booth. This said person is doing a PPL but hasn't reach solo flight yet.

As for preparation, I suggest you look into a general interview tips book. These airline interview books appear to be geared toward professional pilots already and not newbies or cadets. A great tip that I got from SFU co-op is to use PAR - Problem, Action, Result.

As for the English test, I'm sure you can pick up a grammar in a book store. I personally don't believe the reasoning and eye-hand co-ordination can be prepared for. However, given your background, I don't think it should be a problem.

PS: Why did no one told me about Air Time Canada when I was younger?

Thanks will83 for the detail description. The Aptitude test doesn't sound like it can be prepared for

Koyo, have you gone through the process as well?

I am up for meeting in downtown, Vancouver, or Richmond. How about you harry? Others are welcomed too of course.

I'm sorry that I didn't specify that I have yet to apply to the CPP. My advise is purely based on my personal opinions and observations.

Verbal English skill should not be a problem to any individual who had received multiple years of schooling in North America. However, this is not a golden rule as it depends on who you interacted with and how many years you have interacted with them. Despite the fact that I had been in Canada's school system since the age of 10, my grammar skill can and should be improved. In regards to the oral presentation, it really depend on experience. Any individual who had post-secondary education should already performed numerous persentations in class. Finally, in regards to eye-hand coordination, some people are just better at it to start with. However, it doesn't mean you can't improve on this. Personally, I believe if you played sports, drive cars, and play video games (not FF series), you really had improved on your eye-hand coordination over the years. This isn't some far fetch wacky idea. Some research does indicate video game do improve medical surgeons' skills. I myself started playing with air combat games with full joystick, throttle, and rudder when I was about 13 years old.

From a US standpoint I would say the interview is different, not necessairly hard. The bottom line is it doesn't take much technical know how to get an ATP in the States. That's not how CX or the rest of the aviation world works. I studied my @ss off for both interviews. In the end I was probably a bit overprepared, but I have no regrets. In fact I'm kind of glad my interview gave me the motivation to get the technical stuff hard set in my mind. I'm a better airline pilot because of it. If you want this position my advice is to put all your effort into it, because you will get eaten alive if you prepare half-@ssed. Best of luck.

hi will83, can you please post up some of the questions they asked you during the first stage interview? Was it conducted by HR, or by sr. pilot/managers?

thanks!
