Rumours about CPP Dragonair/Cathay

Good and bad things I hear sometimes. Can anyone verify? Here are the rumours:

1) Cut off age is 32 for Cathay. Don't know for Dragonair.
2) If you apply within a year, you get black listed
3) You only get two shots? Does that mean 2 interview? or 2 applications?
4) How many chances of flight grading do you get?
5) Cathay recruit 3 times a year Vs Dragonair's once a year.

plus,

1) Any HRs read this forum?
2) Any existing Cathay/Dragonair pilots read this forum?

The good news is I can verify that if even you have a CPL, you can still be accepted into the CPP. I have VERY good source to tell me so you dont have to worry there.

Also read on a newspaper it took this guy 4 years after his first interview before he made it to Cathay's CPP but didnt say how many attempts he had. Does anyone know?

I am currently trying to get a 2nd interview with Cathay and 1st with Dragonair.

Thanx guys,

Jay

Well... when I asked Peggy from Cathay HR 2 years ago, she said there was no time limit. You are allowed to re-apply as long as your circumstance has changed.

She also recommended that we shouldnt apply within one year as it is unlikely your circumstance would have changed that much in less than a year.

Having said that, there may be hidden policies. I never asked about if you could be blacklisted at the time. The other thing is, If this policy is in force, I dont know if that is 1 year from your last interview or 1 year from your last application.

I guess you cant worry too much lol. I've had 2 rejection letters since my first interview almost 2 years ago :P

Just gotta persist and pray!

4) You have 2 chances for flight grading and you wont be interviewed within 2 years of your first flight grading.

There are some existing cadets of both airlines reading this forum and they are very helpful. If you want more info about the CPP, look for posts made by Jet Driver Wannabe. His posts are very informative.
Goodluck.

3. You will have total two tries if you are invited back for the second try. The waiting period is one year from the date on your rejection letter. Whatever you fail at last time, you will have another try, doesn't mean it's an interview.

Say, if you failed on the 1st stage last year, you can try to apply again, and if they invite you back for 1st stage again, you pass, go on and you fail on Second stage, then you are done for the CX CPP. Not necessary fail on the interview, just wanna clear that up in case some of you get confused.

I talked to one of the recruitment lady after I failed for the first try, she told me that i can apply one year after, but it doesn't mean that I will have second chance---meaning I can apply for second time but not necessary they will give me second chance.

In your case, I am not sure because you said that was two years ago and I am not sure if they still have your record. The rest of the information you've got is updated. Rules have been changing, and you just need to keep your head up and knowing what's going on in there.

Good Luck to you!

mmm.... then I wonder what my circumstance is now lol

- I failed my 1st interview around Dec 03

- In Oct last year, I sent an application and just got a rejection letter.

- Sent another application in March to say that I went to Australia to get some flying hours behind me. Rejection letter again.

Dont know if that will blacklist me. I have done so much inbetween this time but they didnt seem interested in what I had to say. I am just wondering if it was something I did so badly that they wont even contemplate a second interview.

Guess I blow my 1st attempt and its unlikely I will get a second. If only someone gave me the heads up on my 1st interview. Ways.... guess I better rest on hope on Dragonair

bah.. so many typos in my last message lol

YeeYup and Lowspirits

You both sent application within the one year grace period after getting the first rejection letter, I BET that's why you've got rejection letter again without any interview offer. Why don't you guys try to wait for one whole year and see what's gonna happen? I am sure you guys want to join CX really bad just like others, however, by rushing like that, it won't help a lot but getting the rejection letter. Of course, i am not sure if you guys got black listed, nobody knows but the HR people, but at least you guys can do now is follow the rules and see how it goes, if those simple rules you can't even follow, then it's very hard to convince them you are keen enough to wait and to improve.

This is a Rumor network, I am sure there are a lot of valuable information and some of them may not be updated, the best way to find out is to call/email the Flight recrement office and find out the detail and most update information if you are in doubt. And they do reply if you write to them in email in my case.

I do have some bad grades when I was in university and they didn't even ask me about it. So I assume it's something more than grades.

Also about the cover letter, this is one of the best airline in the world, mate, you got to show them your professionalism, show them you want the job. Without a cover letter will not be a good idea in this case. Maybe you think it's little thing, but little thing does show how bad a person want to be in the company he/she wants. Nothing is guranteed, you just need. to do better and show them your improvement.

Even if you do show them your improvement and get no replies, you've done your best, no regrets, just try some other airlines. There are always some other routes out there to the same destination.

Good Luck to you guys and Keep the spirit up

interview age

Yeeup

seems rumour about age 32 wrong. I've got an interview(1st one) early next month and i'm 40.
With only 3000 hrs ttl, 2000 T/prop and 300 PIC (t/prop) I fiqure a long shot.
Its taken me nearly 3 years of applying and updates to get an interview, when I phoned (Carol-its pays to call) them up to ask early this year on current criteria they advised me my experience not comsumate with my age which I can see there point of view, however seems they have relented and given me an interview chance. All good experience to be had.

Cheers

I assume with your number of hours, you are applying for Direct Entry?

There must be an age limit for the Cadet Pilot Program.
