Dear all,

There is this burning question at the back of my mind and it's eating me up slowly. Hopefully those in the know can shed some light. Firstly I am a Singaporean who has just graduated with a non-engineering degree from NUS.

Strangely enough, I was called up for the interview when I was still an undergraduate (24 turning 25yo) in Aug'07. Went all the way, but crashed out during the final interview (two exams the day before took its toll on me I suspect). It has been haunting me ever since. Few months down the road, decided to cut short my honours yr and took up the cabin crew position that I was offered.

After flying a few months as cabin crew, the desire to be in the cockpit increases with each sector. Now the million dollar question is: do I have another shot in this lifetime? Spoke to a few captains/FOs and all told me to never give up and keep on applying. But the one management pilot I have spoken to during my cabin crew ccrm told me my chances are slim. I am giving myself 18months (thats the cabin crew bond) to see whether I can make it or not (in all sense); 'cos if the door's close forever, I'll have to accept it and focus my energy elsewhere (love the flying lifestyle, but cabin crew isnt really long term for me).

Any kind souls out there can shed some light on my situation? Do pm me if its not convenient. Am thinking of finding an appropriate time to have a chat with Ms J.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Ms J you refer to is a blocker not a helper.

A better strategy is to demonstrate interest, eg join the Seletar Flying Club, get a PPL, network with management pilots (the ones that matter). If you are well liked, Ms J will be told NOT to block you. And she will comply.

singapore001..your interview will be a LOT MORE than std cadet...and they will expect you to know EVERYTHING...about commercial flying and enought on basic jets, jeppsen charts, weather/met etc etc etc...so study hard !

Thank you Left Wing and Beeped

Thank you both, Left Wing and Beeped,

Beeped's advice sounded more practical, however, i am not going to leave out whatever Left Wing had claimed too. Sometimes, i might just get extra lucky.

Left Wing, i cant imagine them (the interviewers) taking out a Jeppesen Chart for me to brief them an approach. Even if they do, i think i am ready for that. Anyway, 'wilco'

If my 1st interview lasts for more than 10 mins, i know i will be in for some real grueling

Thanks to all again!! Now, i'll have to start digging out all my ATPL books again..

Anyone in for the KUL interview pls advise...

dude relax. just finish ur CA bond n apply again. there is no need to pay a decent sum of money on a PPL n waste ur own time, cause SIA dun care if u got what licence. good luck.

Hi Furthermathematics, was your post (#1109) in response to mine?

Wasn't too sure as I dont know what does CA mean. Yes I can keep applying again online, but the status will always be rejected after sometime as my profile did indicate me going through the last round. Was wondering should I start a new profile, but decided otherwise.

Accuwipe: Hope you will get the email titled "Cadet Pilot Aptitude Test/Final interview" from Mr Tan soon
Fyi, I went to the first interview in mid-aug'07 and got the email 13 days later. So no need to fret too much k? Cheers

Singapore001, I kinda thought of that also, but CA wasnt commonly used as an acronym for cabin crew in SIA (collective agreement comes to mind instead). Anyway I wish you all the best too!

Hi Guys,

Just wondering as to whether there's any of those cadet pilots here that has just attended the SQ Induction programme on 8th and 9th Sept and are going for the 777 conversion course?

Warmest Regards,

To those cadets that made it through the interview process and have entered the SIA cadet programm, do u have any aviation background maybe a PPL, CPL or something to back up and and gain u an advantage? Care to share?
Where does SIA train its cadet pilots overseas too? Jankdot?

those who hold recognized licenses get hours exempted from their training. Other than that, since its an ab-initio program, having no experience does not put one at a disadvantage.

Yes, they train in Jandakot (WA) and Maroochydore (Queensland)

Post -medical

Hi friends,

Just wondering if any of you here can advise how long after the medical would SIA contact you to sign the contract? It has been almost 3 weeks since my medical at ST aeromedical and still no news from them. Is it normally like that?

Will appreciate any advise I can get. Thanks

You could try calling the Dragon Lady to ask about your application. But remember, be nice. But then, the Dragon Lady will put you in your place and remind you of your position in the company... an amoeba, to be generous...

I waited 7 weeks from my meds before I got the call, if that's any consolation. be patient.

and as always, call at your own risk. no harm (as in i do not think they will chuck away your application just like that), but you'd be put down, hard and fast.
