I started flying across the pond in 96, the difference i see between now and then is that the jets tend to be snake like rather than an arc. Thus, you cross more areas of different wind conditions...

Female pilots have to work whilst pregnant (ground duties) or BA don't pay them regardless of where they live, although i am not aware of anyone being forced to commute from Europe....

Strike Breaking

A number of VCC ( no not the Nigels ) have expressed an interest in becoming full time crew.

This gives BA a very neat way of recruiting "new" crew within the 12 week legal minimum...
