Condors

MJ
Yes, I remember G-AYFD, G-AVZE and G-AWEI all at Sherburn in the early '70's (perhaps also G-AWSO and G-AVOH ?? - I'd have to dig out my first log book to check)
My first solo was on 'EI and...

Suitable training aircraft

Without a doubt, the trusty Rollason Condor.

Tailwheel, very pleasant controls, and will spin convincingly.

All of the Condors I learned to fly in had the placard "All aircraft bite fools"...

Home design and home built...

FelixF

If you have plenty of determination and patience, go for it, via the LAA.
I know someone who did successfully design and build his own single seater, quite recently.

He is now well...

Turb time

AB, the best piece of advice was Rogcal's suggestion about doing some time in a 2 seat Jodel. A Chipmunk is nothing like as light in handling as a Turb, neither is a Cub. Of the three, the Jodel...

Strip machine

Ecosse

You'll probably finish up with either a Jodel 117 / D120 or maybe a 90 horse PA17 Vagabond. Scotland isn't noted for having plenty of airfields where you can get fuel. A Jodel 117 carries...

Banana runways

Breighton originally had only a piece of peri-track for a runway.
Very definitely curved. 29 and 10 approx.
This was in pre Real Aeroplane Company days...

Who's who

Smudge
Whoever your "talking ballast" was should have made it perfecty clear as to who was in charge and what your role amounted to..
Before you took off:)

Way out west

Coops
Barton via Crosland Moor, no problem, but going through Crosland's overhead could be exciting as the circuits are at 1825 QNH and joining aircraft could normally be as high as 2825 QNH,...

Which taildragger ?

Genghis
Bring back the trusty Condor I say !
But no, it's a cloth bomber so it needs hangarage, therefore it won't fit the wish list. Pity as they're a good aeroplane, albeit not quick. Plenty of...

Expensive low volts warning.

On an 0-200 or C90 the generator drive is in the accessory gearcase along with mag drive gears and starter drive. Not a good place to have metal debris from a sheared generator drive shaft. A rare...

You'd expect at best 2350 from a healthy C90 with that prop.....
I've seen as low as 2125, and a similarly leisurely takeoff performance.:)

Have a look at the Highlands Strut website. It's a good starting point.
Scottish strips are closely guarded.......

"Some years ago", several Jungmanns (Jungmenn ??) had to be ferried to England from Spain.
It seems they didn't all get home without a few interesting arrivals due to the unlockable tailwheel being...

To fold or not to fold

Chev
You've more or less answered your own question. Much any aircraft that's a wing folder is day VFR. But you could fly on top of cloud if you have an IMC rating.
Someone recently did a wing-fold...

Skipton

There are no strips around Skipton itself.
The best you'll do is Oxenhope. It's PPR and it is published in several flight guides.
However the strip is not 600 metres long. But quite often...

MCR01

Mike - - " I think Rod's 138kt MCR01 cruise figure is a bit illusory "
You'd be surprised, the MCR 01 is in a different class to the S/C. ( Once you get used to how little there is of it !! ) :)
