So are you suggesting pilots who haven't flown for an extended amount of time should do nothing, and keep not flying? Absurdity. Any job is better than not being current. Only people who are short...

I bought a macbook pro because I needed to use pad pilot and seeing as I didn't own a laptop I thought it was a much more versatile investment than an iPad. Your situation is different though
