Nobody is hiring now, a type rating won't help. Do you have time on a common type (A320, B737)? If so you may stand a chance in the spring when hiring usually picks up.

The biggest motivation for passing the IR first time is the cost of failing!! Retaking the test can be a few thousand pounds if you consider re-training etc. I think a Seneca rents for about £350/hr...

I agree with that, I also found the FAA much more pragmatic.

I spent an arm and a leg converting my FAA licenses to JAA licenses. All I really learnt was to do the same thing a bit differently.
