The Air has a retina display so syncs at a higher resolution than the older iPad. Basically, the software does this to optimise photos for the display on the iPad - not sure if you can overide it....

Thanks for the links TEEEJ. I spent 3 hours up there on Friday and saw 2 Hawks and a Typhoon (which made 2 passes).

It's quite a climb isn't it and I'll be packing some water and sunblock next...
