P8-A is the new MRA4

The Aviationist » U.S. Navy?s new surveillance plane is full of flaws and not yet effective

Quote - "Flaws in the multi-million program (actually, a 35 billion USD endeavour) are almost everywhere: radar, sensor integration, data transfer"

It's deja vu all over again - let's see how the US govt differs from HM govt in how they deal with it...

Hey rcmarple!
So how close were you involved in the Nimrod MRA4 programme?? And what do you actually know about the P-8A program. Or are you just jumping on a bandwagon to get some airtime on PPRuNe?!

So you're taking an existing civillian airframe and converting it to an MPA. Now it doesn't do as much as you expected it.

SASLess, are you saying you're better at failing to reach your expectations than the UK?

Pretty much.....but the British MOD is a mighty tough act to beat.

We just do it on a much larger scale probably.

The A-12 Avenger II is pretty hard to beat. But it didn't mean losing an entire role/capability.

I am sure there are others.

The Indian Navy are introducing the Poseidon at the moment.

It may have have the edge on its predecessor capability-wise, but as an aeroplane it looks gay next to a Bear.....

Mind you, most things do..

"Just-in-service aircraft has some issues"

Well, well, well… I'd have bet all my Boeing stock on that being the case.

That'll be why the Indians added 'I' to their designation then. Crafty.

Betty - not after airtime as you put it. Just a concerned taxpayer who lives close to Woodford who wonders how many years I have to work to pay for the scrap metal which I think still lies over the fence.

Keep an eye out for Mossad's head office car park being a little less busy and Indian politicians having unexpected cardiac arrests...
