It might pay to look at an alternative such as GMX mail. I never have problems of any sort from it.

I personally would back Avira against AVG or Avast. There is a free or paid version and I find that the free version works fine for me in Win 7 64 bit.

Could it be that the old laptop has only USB1 ports, whereas the desktop has USB2 ports? I've no idea really but suppose it could be.
