F/O D Murray

You will now have an E-Mail but since then I have printed out 6 pages on his family. Has both English and Norwegian roots I suspect that RAF 31 Squadron and Arnhem come in with the 'Mad Colonel'bit...

Preserved Dak

I am indebted for the Sabena information. Probably the JU52 was 'a spoil of war' like the ME 108 as the 'civvy stuff' went into our satellite of RAF Northolt. Apart from PH-PBA, and the stray 'Lib',...

Preserved Dak

Might I step in here?

In 1949, RAF Hendon had something called 'the Dutch Comm. Flight' run by a Corporal. It received a regular visit from a Dak painted in red over silver and registration...

Golden Horn-G-AFCK

Not a Sunderland but an Imperial Airways G-Class which is said to have been converted to RAF use under X8273.

So this aircraft was on the strength of the RAF and its crash report will be filed at...

High Octane Petrol

Personnally, I couldn't care a jot, iota or tittle about who, what and how a Mustang P-51 arose. The comments were about an aircraft which arrived in this country and elsewhere which could not cope...

I was on something very close to what you are talking about.
Even now, what went on is not being admitted.

The important thing is whether the staffing levels at Bletchley Park are correct. If...

Mike,
RAF Bombs would have just bounced off.

Think about it- Bismark was only crippled because a torpedo hit the rudder which was not within the real armour protection.

Tirpitz- well...

Waiting for Airport arrivals- so a test of Aviation knowledge.

What has a P-51 Mustang got to do with the Queen's Flight?
In fact, there are two P-51's but these would really make too many ...

Mike, HMS Manchester was not sunk by air attack- we scuttled it!
She was quite a 'dreadnought', sailed out of the Tyne on gunnery trials, if I recall- as a 7 year old. Probably it was a birthday...

Now the Supermarine S6B???? Ah, Mike, should I tell him that Boothman flew a Spitfire. With 100 octane, but of course! Air Vice Marshall Sir John Boothman- at RAF Hendon. Used to fly Jimmy Robbs kite...

It is quite correct to mention that the Brits could break the Nazi Codes and Messages. Unfortunately, the speed of decoding was manual and painfully slow. I doubt that most important signals could be...

I removed my bit because there is little to be gained when Crete was invaded- a year before Enigma was captured.

It was a case of Shakespeare's Chiming Clocks in Rome.

100 octane- the stuff that won the Battle of Britain was blue/blue as in blue.
Recall that the US hadn't a decent inline engine to run on anything until it got the Merlin---- running on blue petrol....

Dear me,
Blue of course. This was the Royal Air Force run by little boys with 6 weeks training whilst the rest were on Operation Plainfare- the Berlin Airlift -to lesser mortals.

I suspect that the origins are 'trooping' service personnel. This leads me to Marshall Suttons of Beverley in Yorkshire who ran charter in connection with Dan Dare. I had/have a villa in Menorca for...

There is a remarkably accurate account of when the Brits gave a few Hurricane 11's with XX Merlins to the Russians.
There was a problem of fuel. I asserted that Merlins ran on 100 octane.

Blacksheep is more than correct!

Crete fell with the RAF unable to defend its own airfields by its own people. It gave rise to two events. One was the formation of the RAF Regiment and the second...

Antarctic Auster 7's
