Don't know the ins and outs of the India ATPL, but I can tell you that getting my ATPL was a formality at best.. I earned my real wings with the US Navy and in F14 school... ;)

MD-11 is much more pitch sensitive and tougher to land... but the level of automation is an order of magnitude better and easier to work with. All else being equal, the 11 is the better job.
