So what if you didn't give QNH with ATIS code, you didn't get a QNH on taxi and there was no change in QNH before you departed. Where is the check?

Plus, I made reference to " departure clearance"...

Agreed, there is no "actual" need to readback QNH with the ATIS code when checking in with approach. I would say that need there is a genuine need to give QNH on requesting departure clearance...
