'Streetlights and Shadows; Searching for the Keys to Adaptive Decision Making' G Klein

https://epdf.tips/streetlights-and-s...fdff79faa.html
Scroll down \/ Download pdf

A comprehensive view of human behaviour in both normal and complex situations; two views, yet both and all in-between are required simultaneously like Safety-I and Safety-II.

Making Decisions; procedures, bias, intuition, error, experts.
Making Sense of situations; feedback, connecting dots, training, computer aiding.
Adapting; risk management, unlearning, cognition, mental illusion.
Systems Thinking.

Streetlights representing SOP's, to which we are drawn like moths expecting illuminated normalcy, whereas real operations take place in the Shadows, amongst the complexities of modern life.

This book provokes many thoughts and poses unanswerable questions.
Does complexity increase as we achieve greater levels of safety ?
A valuable resource for an evolving industry which should trigger a change in the way we think about safety; The New View, Resilience, …

Speaking for the Dead

“What you’re doing, Sidney,” Jim Reason said, looking at me intently, “is trying to crawl into the skull of a dead man.”
He turned to gaze at the teacup in his hand, shook his head, and grumbled.
“How is that possible?”
The way he looked, it was not a question.

This is promoted as an on-line book; see Contents; Table of Contents

There is significant human performance content, also much more wide-ranging materials to wade through.
A slow web site, but all of the texts should be useful; persevere.

Also see Resources and blog (Gurteen)

Would be interested in comments on the format and content, value, style, etc.

Edit; 7 Oct. No thoughts, comments?

Debriefing Facilitation Guide

Debriefing

"The goal of a debriefing … is to seize the opportunity for an organization to learn as much as they can, in a relatively short period of time, about how people normally perceive and perform their work. Because the people involved were doing their normal work on a normal day when the event in question happened."

Psychological Safety; not

For those who dislike the term 'Psychological Safety' (as I do), put your concerns aside; there is so much more to be found in this web site.
Start here … themed CRM, New View of Safety, etc, etc, and more

https://psychsafety.com/category/psy...al-safety/hop/

Follow the sub-heading links; a whole book-full of subjects, and when you reach the end … there are two more, shorter pages.

Then there are free Resources and Articles.

… and for those who wish to look, Psychological Safety, (I was tempted), there are more subjects and views, 11 pages.

https://psychsafety.com/category/psychological-safety/

and for the diehards OODA
https://iterum.co.uk/ooda-loops/
and more links …

What is human factors science?

What is human factors science? Why is it important? How can it be recognised and applied in everyday life? To celebrate National Science Week in Australia, we’ve created a video that explores all things human factors science.

'Human Factors is a discipline of science which focuses on the interactions between people and systems. Watch this short video to learn more!
Presented by the team at SystemiQ'
-> '
