Photo of RA-64047 prior to its accident is removed as it is apparently considered offensive by BOAC and Heathrow Director. Photos of the smouldering wreck in which 4 people died is however deemed acceptable.
|
Harsh and uncalled for BOAC. I think you owe HT an apology.
|
I don't quite understand what BOAC is getting all hot under the collar for. It's not the first time that a photo of the intact airframe has been posted on PPRuNe after it has crashed.
|
NO! - this is a professional pilots' thread, not a spotters' thread. Google will provide millions of pictures of a TU204.for those spotters who need it.

28/12/12 Rosaviation sent letter to Tupolev corp about malfunction of Weight On Wheels switches, leading to overrun at Tolmachevo (reverse and brakes not switched on)
|
BOAC... well said, sir.
|
Kulver - interesting. Does the 204 NEED wow in order to deploy reversers and use brakes/spoilers or are we in another Congonhas airbus scenario?
I have not looked at 'the letter;' but is it the same airframe? |
Few hours after the crash 'Officials believe the cause could be pilot error.'

Ok, i assume this wont help anything in this thread, but however keeps very ironic and sad the fact so many spotters caught it few seconds before T.O at PED, for a last journey home:
RA-64047 - Red Wings Tupolev Tu-204 at Pardubice | ID 257368 | Airplane-Pictures.net planes.cz - TU204-100V - RA-64047 - Red Wings ( RWZ / WZ ) - Pardubice ( PED / LKPD ) |
BOAC no it was 64049 but unscheduled check and lubrication of wow switch affected all of the Tu-204/214 type.
Concerning reversers, 204 pilots just now discussing this (no wow signal at landing) at forumavia. |
The Vunukovo SW runway (I thought it used to be 03/21 - 20 years ago - but see that it is now 20/02) used to have a marked downward slope towards the departure end threshold.
I always thought it nerve wracking that the slope and hump in the runway was such that after landing and backtracking at the lower threshold you couldnt see any large airline aircraft coming at you from the takeoff threshold. And the downhill slope looked like it would be sporting with any sort of speed, braking issues and runway contamination. 02/20 hasn't been in use for years - when was it opened again? |
"I thought it used to be 03/21 - 20 years ago - but see that it is now 20/02"
renumbered due to movement of the magnetic pole - happens all the time |
JD, UUWW rwy 02-20 was at reconstruction 15/04/11 till 01/08/11.

Innocent question. The pilots are discussing "no WOW signal?" OR, are they discussing "no brakes."
The two cannot possibly be 'connected', can they? Because that would even be worse than a flight crew heads down diagnosing a bob (burnt out bulb) whilst putting a wide body into the swamp. Much worse. |
A small allowance for language issues, Lyman? I assume it will be autobrake they are referring to, the effect of WOW on which which you can learn about on the Congonhas and other threads. Patience. I am sure Kulver will be along to help.
