Alaska Pilots Ratify Agreement Started By 737-900 Rate Talks

Pilots at Alaska Airlines have ratified an agreement with management that provides an across-the-board pay increase of 11.05% retroactive to June 1 and annual increases through 2004.
The new agreement calls for raises for the 1,461 pilots of 5% in 2002 and 4% each in 2003 and 2004. The agreement extends the contract between the Air Line Pilots Assn. local and the company for two years to Apr. 30, 2005.
Negotiations to set rates of pay for Alaska's Boeing 737-900 flying resulted in the new agreement. In May, an arbitrator ruled that 737-900 pilots should be paid an 11.05% pay increase, with an addition 5% in 2002. The airline applied the pay increase for pilots of both the MD-80 and the 737 for reasons of equity and operational efficiency, according to the union.
ALPA and the company reached agreement on Aug. 3. The agreement was ratified last Friday.
In another labor development, Air Wisconsin and the International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said they had reached tentative agreements for 1,500 clerical, office, fleet and passenger service employees. No details are available.

Don't think you can compare the higher wages of a second tier American airline to the lower wages of Cathay.
If 52 pilots had been sacked at _any_ American airline, they certainly wouldn't be doing training and accepting upgrades. In fact, any place I've ever worked, they wouldn't turn a wheel...

Not frustrated with present employer, being treated like a million dollers, working with great bunch of people, happy flying 737-400/700/900, just got a raise of 26% on top of the USD 100,000/yr, raising two kids, wife is happy, drinking beer (slight beer belly), life is good.

The article is in Aviation Week, dated Sept 4. I guess Gladiator added the 11.05% retrospective raise to the incrementals for 2002, 2003 & 2004. The main thing here I feel, is the fact that this has been achieved in an amicable way without having to resort to industrial action or the sacking of 52 pilots.

Great News for them. I spent about one month last year at Alaska's Flight Training Center in SeaTac last year, and amazingly everyone I met is thrilled to be working in that airline. Can you guys imagine that? For me it is so hard to beleive but it is true.

Congratulations folks, Ansett USED to be like that prior to 1989. Have a look at the mess that it`s in NOW (on the Dunnunda and Godzone forum), all thanks to a belligerent management.
Not unlike the transformation Cathay seems to be going through.
Keep it up - a satisfied workforce returns a successful bottom line for the company, and the management. Result=EVERYONE is happy.
