This part of the report has reopened this thread in R&N

All airlines have temporarily suspended flights at Touissant Louverture Airport, OFNAC told ABC News. American Airlines and JetBlue issued statements announcing that they had suspended flights into Haiti until at least Thursday.

The U.S. Embassy in Haiti issued a security alert saying that it was "aware of gang-led efforts to block travel to and from Port-au-Prince which may include armed violence, and disruptions to roads, ports, and airports."

It looks like at least two different bullets: One at the rear near the right aft door with the interior photos and one in the front left, with the outside photos.

Haiti wasn't on my vacation spot list anyway, so I'm not bothered.
Currently serving aircrews, on the other hand, may wish to keep an eye on rostering.

The answer is pretty simple: suspend all flights of any kind into Haiti with no intention of resuming them.

Who the heck wants to go there anyway ? Let the anarchy sort itself out.

I remember 50 years ago landing back in Dhahran in a Fokker 50 after a night stop in Beirut and maintenance told us they only found one bullet hole!

This is R&N, not JetBlast and neither US Politics nor French history.

Please stick to discussing the aviation side of this incident, thanks 👍

Commercial aviation wise I'd say Haiti is done for. I don't see anyone up-armoring a passenger jet against small arms fire and I don't see this as being the worst that is possible. Before pulling the trigger those on the ground were angry. Now they know they were successful.

There are in fact some luxury resorts in Haiti but these are well away from the capital city which is basically in a state of anarchy with armed gangs battling for control. Unfortunately the country has everything stacked against it with poor rainfall due to topography, a crippling debt and premier league corrupt politicians. Outside intervention and an UN peacekeeping force is about the only realistic option available.

The Dominican Republic, which shares the other half of Hispaniola, is actually quite a nice place.

@ JanetFlight. You're quite correct F-27 it was. Aramco had DC3s, F-27s, BE200s and Twin Otters, I think. (Well it was 50 years ago. After Court Line, I did a year at Aramco and jumped to Gulf Air for another 12.)

Not just Spirit - Jet Blue was also hit, although they flew back to JFK before the aircraft was inspected: https://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...e/76218328007/

For avoidance of doubt, they flew back to JFK before they became of aware of what had happened. They didn't knowingly take off on the return flight with a bullet-ridden aircraft.

You're absolutely right - I'm sorry if I implied otherwise. That was not my intention.
