I ran a A 320 station as station manager at this time. Some of the aircraft were 100´s. Many of the pilots were ex BCAL, they loved flying the A 320, and the passengers liked the spacious cabin. The fleet was a bit " isolated ", BA were reluctant to buy more A 320s. As one captain put it " we don´t buy good aircraft ". The fleet was inherited through the merger with BCAL, fullfilling the contract with Airbus was part of it. Regarding station maintenance we were very lucky, Lufthansa Technik did the maintenance for us, they were the A 320 experts.
