What goes around comes around.
One day the "Massive Expansion" in air travel that was predicted at the end of the eighties but has now been stalled twice (firstly by the huge recession that began in 1989/90 and now by Sep 11th) will happen.
When it does, and there are once again lots of decent jobs around with less unscrupulus employers, Mr. O'Leary may live to rue his current policies of exploitation.
Of course, people will always work for you (even if you have a terrible reputation) if you pay them enough, but it may be hard to to continue to operate in the 'low cost' environment if you're having to pay top bucks.
Sir Freddie championed cheap air fares a long time ago but there is a significant difference between him and Mr. O'Leary... Everyone I've ever met who used to work for Laker Airways speaks of their former boss with the genuine affection reserved for an employer who created a good working environment and knew how to look after his staff. I only know one guy who works for FR and he's not highly enamoured with the outfit or it's boss.
It was a bit before my time, but before anyone goes into one about Laker's demise, my viewpoint is that 'dirty tricks' campaigns are not just a recent phenomenen.
Every dog has his day... methinks Ryanair's are probably numbered. You can never say never but things would have to be pretty damn bad before I'd go and work there. They probably don't want me anyway after this... "Oh dear, how sad... Never mind".

However much one may dislike MOL's methods, one cannot get over the fact that even with buying new equipment, FR are still making pots of money.
The fact is, MOL is just jumping on the present bandwagon of "in the wake of Sep 11" and saying ,in effect, "if you don't want to pay for your uniform, there will soon be plenty available who will, so choose. Pay or walk". Same with pilots CVs. Totally disgusting. Mind you, if I were applying for a Captains job on that sort of moolah, I think fifty quid is quite a good loss leader!!!

How low can you go? One has to pay for the pants they'll have to drop!
Mind you: The hotel bill of FR crews at Charleroi is payed by the Walloon government! Who said the mob was out there?

Yes, Dr.C, on that sort of pay, £50 is not a bad loss leader, provided you get the job.
Then there's the interview, sim ride, type rating... can you hear the sound of cash registers?
And once you get in, are you prepared just to "do your job", keep quiet about all the safety breaches, the increasingly degrading treatment handed out to you and your colleagues, the yes-men...?
Not worth it. Not by a long chalk.
