JAI225 departed Toronto (LBPIA) at 0012Z. Approximately five (5) minutes after departure, the aircraft's right engine failed. The aircraft orbited to burn fuel for approximately 25 minutes prior to returning to land. ARFF services were called out and the aircraft landed on runway 24R at 0050Z before taxiing to the gate without incident. Ops. impact -- unknown. Initial Notification [#A08O0182]: The Jet Airways Airbus A-330-200 series aircraft (operating as flight JAI225) was on climb out when the #2 engine oil pressure dropped to zero. The aircraft continued to climb to 4,000 feet ASL and, after the flight crew interrogated the ECAM warnings and indications, they reduced thrust to idle and shut down the engine (Rolls-Royce Trent 700). The aircraft burned off excessive fuel for approximately 25 minutes before being vectored for an approach to runway 24R. ARFF services were standing by for the uneventful landing. Maintenance staff checked the oil level and found it to be normal. No obvious oil leaks were found around the engine. The magnetic chip detector was removed and was found to be contaminated with metal debris. The engine oil pump was removed and the drive shaft was found to be sheared. DFDR data was downloaded and, based on this information, the engine manufacturer requested that the engine be removed since it was operated with no oil pressure for a period of time.

The aircraft was eastbound, in Montréal ACC airspace, when the flight crew reported engine vibrations and requested to return to Toronto (LBPIA) for maintenance work. No emergency was declared. The aircraft landed on runway 15L at 1959Z before taxiing to the maintenance facility without incident. Ops. impact -- unknown. The second CADORS report is partially incorrect. There was an in flight turnback due to high vibrations, but the flight was not operating the scheduled flight to BRU but rather an empty ferry flight non-stop to DEL.

The revenue flight with passengers arrived in BRU on schedule.

The RB211 derivative on the 330 has developed quite a history of Oil Pump drive shaft failure shortly after take-off. Total loss of oil pressure leads to inflight shutdown. It has nothing to do with Jet Airways, it's a Rolls Royce design problem.

Was runway 23 closed. Its almost 2000 feet longer than runway 24R. I would like to have the extra runway....

The first 1500' of Rwy 23 is being re-paved, so there is a displaced threshold, in addition, the G/S and PAPI are notamed out of service. Rwy 24R sounds like it was a better choice.
