Looks real to me.

I've done similar stuff on lots of jobs in the northern rockies. It's easier then it looks.

At least your tail is in the clear so you only have to focus on the main rotor.

Obviously it's got a high danger factor but what kind of work in a single engine helicopter in the rocks doesn't.

I am convinced that this is a real photo. It looks at first very scary indeed but if you look at the MR Blades, there is still plenty of room towards the hill and from the ground. The MR blades tip is about where the big rock is. I assume it was under light to nil wind conditions.
Certain countries require in the CPL test to demonstrate a min. 30 sec. hover with only the toes of the skids touching down or with either left or right skid making contact with the ground and holding the hover.
I love flying in the mountains.

Just to satisfy my own curiousity, I blew up the image in photoshop. Then rotated it to make the aircraft underside horizontal. Drew a horizontal red line under the aircraft and low and behold---there is a peice of the aircraft missing!!! Also, the pitot tube looks too short, and if you look through the windsheild---the one tree does not line up.
Who ever did the photoshop work in the first place, did a pretty good job, but missed these things.
Sorry.
Its a fake!!!!!

I don't think its a fake . . . I don't see the missing part of the aircraft, I don't see the pitot tube being too short, its just the tube is off to the other side and the pictures is taken a little from behind the aircraft, the tree mismatch, well that leaves a lot, I'm pretty good at photoshop and that just doesn't seem fake sorry.

I've seen this happen before, I have a website where I show pictures of my city that I have taken and I have this picture which I know is real because I took it, and it has been the matter of discussion on so many architecture, computer rendering and other forums that it's just funny to read how many people swear that the picture is a fake when I took the picture and I know it's real! (It's even listed on www.hoaxes.com)

Fantastic pictures, looks like an interesting place with loads of great buildings and structures, think I need to put Mexico city on my must visit list! (And book a helicopter ride to see it from the best vantage point).
Got to say if one showed me the picture of those affordable housing I would have thought it was computer generated.
Great photographic skill on your part, one question did you take those pictures while flying single pilot?

If its real, and I'm not sure either way, shouldn't some of the surrounding tree's at least look like they are being buffeted by the downwash. They all look pretty calm to me! :confused:

SASless, I too thought about the missing left front skid end. Upon closer examination I realised it is obscured by a line of rocks that are between the skid and the person who took the photo. That line of rocks is going towards the photographer but at an angle and upwards - nearly level with the footwell bubble.

Also the plethora of rock sizes make it difficult to gauge the depth of field but if you look closely, the rocks are much smaller to the right of the helicopter (behind the nose) and this leads me to suggest that the helo is some distance from the trees, hence no real sign of foliage movement.

Interesting rock formation to the right; wouldn't want to be around when those sharp tiles come down...

WRT Steve's toehold on the rock......Please reassure me that - this was a really necessary maneouvre AND that someone was on life or death fire and needed to be rescued AND that there wasn't a better alternative HLS within walking distance.

As one who has bent a skid tube up at the toe end, I'd caution against balancing and bouncing on a skid toe if your disc is within striking distance of a rock!

No job is so important that a way cannot be found to do it safely.
