They look like a bag of nails on the ground, but in the air they look and sound like nothing else.

I remember watching the Bond ones coming in from the Morecambe Bay rigs into EGNH in the 80's. like something out of Star Wars!:ok:

And you thought your flight insurance was high...

Owen grounded
Sunday Mirror 8/27

Michael Owen has been banned from flying his £2 million helicopter.

Newcastle United bosses have told the England ace he can't take the controls - because they are not prepared to pay vastly increased insurance premiums to cover his loss to the team if he crashes.

Owen spent thousands on flying lessons after buying the eight-seater, twin-engine Eurocopter Dauphin in October.

A source close to the player, 26, said last night: "Michael is really annoyed and frustrated. He has spent all that money on a helicopter and lessons - and now he has found out he can't fly because of the huge insurance fees.

"He enjoys flying just for the sake of it, but being a pilot would also have cut his travelling time, meaning he could see more of his wife and family. Now that hope is pretty much in tatters."

Owen - who suffered a potentially career-ending injury during the World Cup - initially planned to hire a pilot to fly him on the 190-mile trip to Newcastle from his home at Northop, North Wales. Then he decided getting his own licence would give him more freedom. He also hoped to build a £20,000 helipad in his three-acre garden.

Owen ......... initially planned to hire a pilot
Not only planned, but did.

Mark Griffiths from Multiflight has been operating the Dauphin for Owen since he bought it from them.

Is that the same Mark that cut his flying teeth in Barbados years ago?

Flying Lawyer 30th Aug 2006 08:53

Yes, the same one.

Flying Lawyer 11th Sep 2006 09:41

I mentioned the Sunday Mirror story while speaking to Mark Griffiths last week.

It's complete rubbish.

.......... banned from flying his £2 million helicopter ..... told he can't take the controls for insurance reasons ..... spent thousands on flying lessons

Michael Owen has not been told anything of the sort, has never had a lesson, and has no interest in learning to fly.

Hi Guys Owens Dauphine has been into Swansea recently. Apparrently he had to buy twin as not insured to fly in single. Since he has owned it it is doing 1000+ charter hours a year. Its a stunning machine. biggest problem they have is getting suitably qualified people to fly it

FloaterNorthWest 11th Sep 2006 21:15

Probably because they don't reply to the ones that apply!

The first part is correct.
Word in the bazaars is they've just taken on two more pilots.
