Lu Zuckerman

Rotorheads regulars will have noticed we haven't heard from one of our most active and stimulating contributors recently. Lu's stepdaughter contacted me today to say he's been in hospital for the past six weeks, and he wanted us to know he'd be posting if he could.

I spoke to Lu this morning and I'm pleased to say he's in good spirits despite having been through a very tough course of treatment at a specialist hospital. He says the first four weeks were the worst, but the most recent test showed 'all clear' and, in his own words, he's "hanging in there."

We know Lu's a real fighter who never gives up under any circumstances - just the sort of determination which will serve him well fighting his particular illness.

I'm sure Lu will be in our thoughts and prayers, and that you'll join me in hoping he'll be discharged from hospital soon and well enough to be back in action - pointing out where that young Nick Lappos has got it all wrong - yet again!

Lu isn't able to use the internet at the moment (which must be very frustrating for him!) but I'll be keeping in contact with him and his stepdaughter and would be very pleased to make sure he sees print-outs of messages from his many friends here.

Get well soon, Lu. Rotorheads just ain't Rotorheads without long debates on centripetal force and where Agusta went wrong...

:ok:

IHL 21st Mar 2005 14:41

Thanks Heliport.

Lu was never shy to answer a question or give an opinion.
Though sometimes controversial; there is no denying his in-depth knowledge and experience.

Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery and I hope to see him back here soon.

Please pass on best wishes to Lu for a speedy recovery and return to pprune.

Thanks

moosp 21st Mar 2005 15:08

Even those who disagree with your posts want you back on line so hang on in there. The intellects that question received knowledge are vital in science and especially so in the new science of rotary flight. (Yes it is still new. Compare it in age terms to marine technology.)

If Lu does not have web access right now, I hope someone will will print out the pages of good will for him.

Flingwing207 21st Mar 2005 15:12

We're all sending healing vibes, Lu, get well soon!

jayteeto 21st Mar 2005 15:13

Here Here, I have opposed your views quite often but then again I love a good argument!! Get well and back here soon!

SASless 21st Mar 2005 16:05

Awlright Nick....Quit sticking those pins into that LU Doll!

Do pass our regards....and tell him to hurry back....Nick is getting off way too easy without Lu here to keep him on his toes!

If he fights this illness the way he does Nick....he will be back here in short order.

teeteringhead 21st Mar 2005 16:33

Get well soon Lu - and jayteeto was usually wrong anyway.....

I'm sure I echo the sentiments of your friends at Airbus, Agusta and Robinson :} when I wish you Mercury's speed in returning to the crucible of debate.

We await the Rotorheads iconoclast....

Lu,
If you are able to fight illness with the rugged determination that you fight your corner in an arguement, you will be back on your feet in no time.

I am looking foward to seing you back here real soon!

Gute Besserung Lu !!!:O

Dave_Jackson 21st Mar 2005 19:55

Lu,

Three weeks after your last post on PPRuNe, we heard that Nick was leaving Sikorsky, rotorcraft, and PPRuNe.

He sent out a letter saying; " How can I decide to move to a new company, and a new area? ... I love change, and I love the sense of uncertainty and excitement. ... and to make an outcome with only limited knowledge of what will happen. " I assumed that Nick was leaving because you had quit posting on PPruNe.

Whatever, you have a job to do, provoking Nick. Get better and get back here; fast. :ok:

Lu's nurses were confounded when they took his temperature - instead of 98.6 it only read 80.6

Lu told them to ask Frank Robinson where the missing eighteen degrees went to....

Get well soon, Lu

Stay strong.

Lu Zuckerman (with one N) is down?? and with no computer?? No wonder things are slow on rotorheads.
Hey guys, Im not a volunteer, but I bet we could somehow gather enough to put a workable laptop whereever he is??
Any suggestions??

Heliport, you started this thread, are you the repository for donations etc?? Maybe someone has an older yet still workable one or something to get some of his Pearls of Wisdom back here..

TeeS 21st Mar 2005 22:21

Look forward to seeing you back here Lu, get well soon.

Heliport 21st Mar 2005 22:31

Thanks for registering and posting Lyne.
As I told you this morning, Lu is a well-respected and very popular member of our forum - now you can see for yourself.

Very kind thought Bert.
I'll check, but I think Lu will have access to a laptop when he's well enough to start posting again. Let's hope that time isn't too far off.

Dave J
Just in case anyone misunderstands, Nick has only left Sikorsky - not Rotorheads.
He doesn't log in quite as often at the moment, but he's still very much part of the forum.

Best wishes for a fast recovery Lu!
Hope to see you back soon

helmet fire 22nd Mar 2005 00:34

Lu, get well mate.

You were the reason I joined pprune and you were the reason my brain was overheating and my helmet caught on fire in the first place. I know you will not give in with your fight (I am not sure you know the meaning of the word :ok: ) and I hope you are strengthened by all the support.

By the way, I want you to list at least 4 examples of medical uses of centrifugal force you have come across during your hospital stay, and we want quotes from actual doctors please!!

Good luck, and see you back here soon,

helmet fire

Hi Lu,

Just a quick note to wish you all the best and a speedy recovery.

tecpilot 22nd Mar 2005 05:16

Come on Lu. You see we are missing you here at PPRUNE. Religion isn`t my thing, but i'm sure that HEGO (the helicoptergod) is on your side.
"If you will fight, may be you lose, but if you don't fight you get lost"
You are a fighter Lu!

paco 22nd Mar 2005 05:40

It's too quiet round here without you, Lu! Get well soon!

soggyboxers 22nd Mar 2005 06:56

Get well very soon Lu. We need you back to keep poking your stick into nests of hornets and liven up any debate on the many issues you find contentious. :D

rotaryman 22nd Mar 2005 07:07

G-Day from the Land Down Under Lu......

Get well soon mate, and looking forward to more lively Debate:ok:

rotorboater 22nd Mar 2005 09:32

Good Luck Lu,
missing your posts (even though I don't understand most of them!)

Flying Lawyer 22nd Mar 2005 09:59

Keep hanging in there, Lu. :ok: We're all rooting for you.

And, for the moment, just listen to the Docs without arguing. There'll be plenty of time to tell them where they misunderstood basic principles after they've got you fit and well again. :)

God Bless.

NickLappos 22nd Mar 2005 11:05

Lu,

keep plugging away, you are a rare and wonderful addition to Pprune!

I hope you get better quickly, and I hope that hospital did not drain away any of your fighting spirit!

I look forward to years more battling here on pprune, always with a smile and a few emoticons to keep it light!

get well quickly,
Your friend,

Nick

Robbo Jock 22nd Mar 2005 11:14

Get well soon Lu. Dig deep and focus all your determination on the task in hand. (And no, I don't mean the nurses!)

Tuckunder 22nd Mar 2005 15:24

What more can I add, its all been said. I always had time for someone who preaches centripetal not centrifugal.

Come back soon.

slowrotor 22nd Mar 2005 15:47

Lu,
I hope you are feeling better. We need the comments from older members with real life experiences (and strong opinions).

About centrifugal force.... Scientists are currently trying to condense all the forces into one grand force that will be called the the Theory of Everything. Right now they are down to four forces:
1)Elecromagnetic
2)gravity
3)strong nuclear
4)weak nuclear

Centrifugal force(or acceleration) is still a useful word for describing the effect we feel and see. It's just not on the condensed list of four forces.
New generations will be taught differently as the wording changes with time.
