Depends on what kind of statement you make. When did you last work over here? If it was pre-Sept 11, the country has changed significantly since then. Its not justhelicopters, same with flightinfo.com (and don't even go to grouchymedia.com.....)

Talking

I have to say that I no longer bother going onto that site due to the ridiculously kindergarten tit for tat banter that is allowed to be exchanged between what seems to be a lot of people on that board.

This forum is a breath of fresh air and may I say well done to all you contributers for your valuable and in no doubt sometimes potentially life-saving information and in particular to the moderators who take the time out to "police" it so well...

I think the reason there are so many idiot postings is because none are accountable for their posts. In PPrune the Moderators, who I sometimes do battle with, do a pretty good job of eliminating most of the junk.
Of course its not junk when I post.....ha ha and I have been slammed a few times. If Just Helos went that route Im sure it would straighten up. Dont expect to see that anytime soon.

Bert Sousa....

You forget Just Helicopters is just a typical GOM crew room....guess why I have never gotten up the courage to head south for work yet? The PHPA site is much more polite...and hopefully will remain so. Intellectual debate is welcome....and those without facts and data to reference soon find the heat uncomfy there.

I have to disagree with you, SASless. I don't know of any GOM crew room like that, & I've spent a lot of time in many of them. JustHelicopters is bad, I agree, so I don't even go there. But if crew rooms were the same, I couldn't stay in them, either.

i worked there both pre and post sept 11th and i have to say that nothing changed except the americans getting a little more scared.

i believe strongly that the american people are not as united as the bush-clan say they are. the media is responsible of painting this picture of the country as being: "land of the free, home of the brave". this is just not true. a lot of the people care only about themselves, they don't give a damn what happens to the neighbours, and if they can make a buck selling their grandmother (not being their closest relations), they would.

two examples of this that struck me being in the us. i was at disneyworld in orlando july 4th; but where were all the american flags, except the ones hanging from the thousands of shops inside the park? where were the brave americans celebrating their independence from the horrible brits. after sept 11th i heard almost noone talking about terrorists, bin laden, afghanistan, iraq, weapons of mass-destruction, etc. frankly it seemed like people there couldn't give a damn.

americans have a saying they are proud of - "money talks, bull**** walks." after spending 4 years in this country, i've had enough. usa has so much poverty. norway and sweden are ranked by the united nations as the two best countries to live in, maybe they ought to look this way to learn. today 63 years ago the nazi regime occupied norway. we still remember it. may 17th we celebrate our constitution from 1814 by letting all the children in the country parade the cities with norwegian flags and music. that is a country united!

Tigerpic,

I may know you, as I was trained by Norwegian Heli CFI’s, or I may not know you.

If you think justhelicopters is bad try out MSN Slate Magazine.

USA is not as socialistic as most European countries, college and health care are not free. But car gas and avgas cost $1.60, $2.60 a gallon, general aviation is affordable.

I believe taxes are less in this country, my pilots license is good for life, I don’t need to pay hundreds of dollars to the government every couple or years for renewal, I can shoot ILS’s and pattern work all day and not pay any navigation or instrument fees.

If Norway and Sweden are ranked so high by the United Nations (an oxymoron nowadays) why are people not lining up to move there? Back in January I had to go to the motor vehicle department to register my SUV, I thought I was in Mexico!

There is a lot of freedom in this country, if you want to start a business all you need is a business card and the will to succeed, and you won’t be taxed to death.

As for poverty there are many reasons for it, unwed mothers, personal responsibility, failed social programs. We are not a cradle to grave system, but politicians are trying to get us there.

Is it true in the north countries very few people attend church yet they have a high suicide rate?

Our countries are different, I hope you cherish the good times and not dwell on the negative.

I would like to come to Norway sometime and maybe take that Super Puma groundschool, some sim time and do some sightseeing.

Tigerpic,
About that poverty thing. As you know, America has a very minimal safety net compared to European countries - but that is by a conscious choice. You are free to rise as high - or fall as low - as your talent, work-ethic, and luck will take you. As someone said the difference between socialism and capitalism is one is screwing the other, the difference between capitalism and socialism is one is screwing the other....
For example, my roommate was from Malmo - and I found it amazing that her unemployed friend had time and money to travel everywhere due to the fact that the Swedish govt had such generous benefits - in America it either fish or cut bait. The words from a Norwegian exchange student here at the local university were telling: I can either go home to be with friends and family or I can stay here and make money. I'm not saying one is right or wrong, just different philosphies.
And on a side note, spent a month up around Narvik and Harstad a few years ago - I must say Norway is a wonderful place.

Tigerpic,

..........you said"i believe strongly that the american people are not as united as the bush-clan say they are. ............
............ i was at disneyworld in orlando july 4th; but where were all the american flags, ...................

I don't know how you arrived at this conclusion, I assume that you had more evidence then a day spent at an amusement park. Disney is the most packaged entertainment concept in the world, what you saw there has nothing to do with American patriotism and everything to do with focus groups, etc. If I knew you where going to be in my country, I would have offered you a sailing cruise down to the annual AirShow on Narragansett Bay to Quonset Point, home of the US SeeBees. On July Fourth, you would have seen the kind of energy, that awes our friends and scares our enemies. But that is only a single days reflection of America's concern for its own. Please observe the national outpouring of concern then joy at the recovery of USA Pfc. Jessica Lynch. The rescue of just one POW is a national event, my country rejoices in the news that seven more POWS are alive and coming home.

Please come back after to the US after I and almost 100 of my fellow towns people travel some 600 miles to Arlington National Cemetary to bury one of our sons. I'll be happy to show you mutual concern by the bushel basket and a love of country most people have never seen in their land.

I am afraid you are sorely mistaken or mislead. Disneyland is not the USA, and apparently you have never really visited my country. Please come back soon.
