I've obtained an advance copy of the official portrait of Nick Lappos which Sikorsky commissioned to commemorate Nick's 50 years with the company. It will be presented to him at a special ceremony in Igor's old office tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day.

President George W. Bush looks over Katie, the National Thanksgiving Turkey, during the annual ceremonial pardoning in the Rose Garden, Tuesday, Nov. 26. "By virtue of this pardon, Katie is on her way not to the dinner table, but to Kidwell Farm in Herndon, Virginia. There she'll live out her days as safe and comfortable as she can be," said President Bush before granting the pardon.
Just goes to show it's not only the Brits who have curious traditions!

Non-radio......might I remind you of the invaluable assistance "Americans" provided to the "early" English in our country.....that allowed the visitors to still be around for that day. Those that formed the involuntary welcoming committee and later became mentors on indigenous farming methods provided that "local" knowledge that went a long way in ensuring the success of that latter bunch of treaspassers. Please to recall the first bunch in the coastal regions of North Carolina did not fare as well and disappeared during the first winter.
Thanksgiving Day is a good family holiday, usually in the middle of deer hunting season, start of the Christmas shopping season, lots of football games to watch. But, we should all take time out to reflect on the things we have to be thankful for and give thanks for those blessings we enjoy.

SAS - you're quite right (albeit in a rather 'reconstructed' way), Massasoit and all that, and as someone who has indeed celebrated Thanksgiving a few times I wish that my ancestors had had the gumption to sail west too

For some of us, Thanksgiving this year is a regular working day, but the temperature's in the 70s, good vis and calm wind at the moment so it's not all bad.
This is an fine forum and it's so good to have an 'international crew room' to exchange ideas.

Thanks for the sentiments, and also for moderating. I suspect it's a labor of love.
Further, thanks to the regular contributors here. As a rookie heli pilot (just under 100 hours
), you help me to learn and prolong my lifespan. I don't often post, as I've found that I tend to learn much more when my ears are open, rather than my mouth being open. The "experience" I gain here is priceless.
Finally, I give thanks in general for the priviledge of being able to fly, and helicopters in particular. I occasionally feel guilty when I spend more on an hour of Robbie rental than some in the world earn in an entire month. Most people, including other pilots, will never know the thrill we get from controlling our complex machines. Let us never take it for granted, for it can be lost.

That photo is one of a set that is offered on the Late Night Channel of the Forgotten Almost-Famous, a limited edition of 10,000 all personally machine-signed and individually mass-mailed. In the set are portraits of:
Dr. Ben Dover, the doctor who invented the penicillin shot
Pickoop Endropoff, the Russian inventor of the helicopter shuttle service between Minsk and Vladavostok, which unfortunately folded when no passengers showed up, since nobody wanted to go to either place
Isaiah Olchap, the founder of the CAA and former Beefeater, who could stand motionless for 57 minutes without blinking
U. Lyon Sack, Marketing Director of the Acme Screen Door and Helicopter Company
Isabelle Ringing, Director of Acoustics Engineering for Acme
Unfortunata Castrada, only survivor of that terrible midair collision outside of Lubbock Texas, between an R-22 and a revolving Sunoco gas station sign
