Sywell isn't really aviaiton friendly these days. PPR in writing required for virtually all movements. And no crossing the active runway in a helicopter, all approahces need to be from the West or the East.

For an event, they do things differently. But their main function now is motorosport stuff on the runway.

Warick Castle

Warwick Castle - big carpark/fields and scenic back drop. Holds festivals/events. Healthy selection of classic pubs in town. Could even land/stage at Warwick race course. Of course all the neighbors / townsfolk would have to not mind!

On a par with having the meet at Valley, St Mawgan, Enniskillen or Wick… but just my opinion.

I think he means they’re locations at the edge of the UK rather than central, so on average people will have to fly further.

I think he means it’s a little out of the way!

Cranfield would be ideal, but I expect they charge like a wounded buffalo.

Sorry Ned,
Just highlighting that Manston is one of the extremes of the country and might not be ideal, I guess nowhere would be.
Although good for those visiting from across the Channel, it is specially out of the way, including for those of us that might wish to join y’all at the Fly-In and travelling other than by air.

that would be the last place id have it. Sywell pretty much hate all things helicopters and aviation if past and recent experiences count. Plus the nitemare you’d have with the local villages and NIMBYS would be something else. Turweston would be good as would Nottingham Tollerton (before it closes and is redeveloped) . Plenty of space.

based aircraft probably have grandfather rights. As an outsider it’s not so easy. The owner doesn’t seem to be much of an aviation fan.

As a helicopter company tenant at Manston with many years of operating there, we do have an enormous amount of land to use and the owners would love to accommodate. Catering, fuel toilets etc all easy to do, no ATC restrictions, secure parking, happy to help if needed, also somewhere to fly to is part of the event?

Hi Ned

If you are thinking of somewhere central then Weston Park, just north of RAF Cosford, would be worth considering. A long history of large events such as V Festival, Large Model Aircraft Show and even the G8 summit in 1998. I think they used to do hovercraft racing there so you might be able to expand the hovering community at the same time!

Good motorway access, almost to the door (aids navigation!) and not bad for accommodation locally.

Halfpenny Green (might still be called Wolverhampton International or something!) EGWC and Tatenhill EGBM not far away for fuel.

Website HERE

Cheers

For an event of this potential size, I’m pretty sure that fuel on-site could be arranged. At least JetA1.

Manston is a good site, but it's at the arse-end of nowhere

My vote would be Middle Wallop, pretty sure the MOD wouldnt have a problem, could hold the reception in one of the hangers, cant believe there is much in there anymore

Doesn’t HG already have Jet-A1?

I’m sure it has but the post in question was suggesting holding the event at Weston Park. Having fuel on site would obviously save aircraft having to transit to HG for the stuff.
