Polite request

As a mainly fixed wing experience person I have dropped into your rotary flight forum and am asking for assistance of a general nature.

I fly simulators........... but have 30+ years of operational depts with several Majors.

I know hardly anything about flying helicopters.
I have offered my services in flt ops and meteorology to an air ambulance outfit that are considering my worth.

I thought the least I could do was get a copy of the actual eqp they use EC135 Eurocopter and download it to my FSX sim.
I also want to take a start from scratch training on helicopters course.
I think that is the least I can do in preparation for what is to come.

My question to you chaps is....have I done enough, could I do more ?
Any help or guidance would be most welcome and I thank you in advance.
Please email me as I don't want to miss a single response from any of you.
Sincere Regards

Arnie does ... "Get to the chooooper!", but yes, no actual pilots I know of call them that.

You can edit the post yourself if you wish by clicking the "edit" button that should be visible to you.

Smart-@rse replies are par for the course here, but you should take it in the spirit it's intended and note the point - calling it a "chopper" is a sure fire way to get people's backs up.

I confess to being bemused and confused by what you appear to be looking for. You confess to knowing very little about helicopters but profess to be looking for a role within the Ops team of an air ambulance and think that playing on flight Sim will help prepare you??? If you're serious then you've got to realise that's going to sound a bit silly... If you're a troll - then congratulations - you got me.

OH

Or perhaps a certain 'air ambulance outfit' with a certain new pilot, needs to take advice from the certain new pilots' management, before taking on certain people that are offering their services

Pprune... it's something else.

A serious answer for a change of pace.

My background is helicopters but have done some flight ops work for an operation using Dash-8's. A general aviation background, understanding of weather, duty regs, etc. is what is really needed. I didn't need to learn how to fly a Dash-8 in order to manage scheduling, liaise with engineering, or provide them with useful information and planning assistance pre-flight.

You have been a little vague about the exact role you are proposing to fill, and understand why, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. The fact that you are asking these questions would indicate that you understand the limitations of applicability of your previous experience. That should be enough.

Good luck.

Remember that the fidelity of the simulator flight controls is largely unrepresentative of the actual feel, especially in the hover. What would be useful is to study the useable payload versus fuel load characteristics of your operator's aircraft to get a feel for "how much, for how long", then see what the normal cruise IAS is for that aircraft. In a helicopter anything above a stiff breeze soon becomes a factor in mission planning.
