Nothing to do with helicopters .....
..... but a great photograph. (Not taken by me.)
The television coverage tracked Concorde climbing out towards LHR. It missed the tailman moving forward to lead the Reds formation, which then broke away and turned as one 9 Hawk wide 'wing' in a 30 degree bank to the North West - just as it passed over my house about a mile West of the Palace. Stunning!
What a shame helicopters were relegated to camera-ship duties!
A big helicopter formation is very impressive, as anyone who's seen the AAC display at MW will confirm.

Fantastic. I've got the whole thing on video. I was standing on the corner outside the old Coal Board HQ, in a crowd of about a thousand. Followed it from about over the Law Courts, right overhead and across Eaton Square. The noise was almost drowned out by the sound of the people cheering.

I was on the roof of my house. We could see the formation from quite a way out, and then break as it flew over us in Chelsea.
A spectacular sight to be remembered for a long time!
BTW - the pic makes good computer wallpaper.

Not the first time.
I have a beautifully rendered color silk screen picture printed on brushed stainless steel and mounted on a shadow box frame. It is of a very similar formation of the Concorde and the Red Arrows. I purchased the picture while on a business trip to Stow on the Wold back in 1987 or 1988 which proves that the picture provided by Flying Lawyer while beautiful is not unique.

I like it because I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Concorde, a big fan of the Reds and they rarely fly in formation.
The photograph I posted is good, but not as good as one I have on the wall in my Chambers (office). It's taken from above the formation, over the English countryside on a gin clear day. (They're also rare! ) The Concorde is G-BBDG, not in airline markings. I think it's Concorde 002.

I do not have the picture with me in Canada. It is presently in storage in Seattle, Washington however I plan on going there in a month or so to pick up all of my aircraft and helicopter models along with many silk-screened pictures. When I get my stuff here in Canada I will have the picture scanned and send it to Helidrvr. If you are interested in obtaining one of these pictures contact me via E-mail and I will provide the necessary info. Please understand that the address and phone number were valid in 1987-88 when I purchased the picture. It was one of a series of English aircraft from WW II to present time.

I'm another big fan of Concorde. The most elegant aeroplane I've ever seen and the epitome of British Engineering (we don't talk about the French in our house - not since Agincourt... ;-) ).
And to think it was designed over forty years ago.
I watched the jubilee on the telly - very dissappointed with the live coverage - the shot they had of the formation was from the side and slightly above... the best picture would have been as the formation approached Buck House from above Admiralty Arch - but for some reason they chose NOT to show that.
Anybody get that shot?

Is it just me, but are designers losing their imagination? Most interesting aircraft or the most innovative engineering solutions seem to have been designed before the end of the 'sixties?
People still gasp at Concorde decades later (as evidenced in this thread), but don't forget others such as Spitfire, Harrier, Hunter, Jetranger, TSR2, 747, Apollo moon missions etc
Now we just have boring airliners, a bridge that wobbles and the Millenium Dome...

I was present at Biggin Hill Air Show sometime in the mid-1980s
when Concorde flew past with a Spitfire on one wing and a
Hurricane on the other. When I say present, I was freeloading
in the field at the end of 21. Deep in my actuarial heart...

Don't knock it, chief! Some of us make a living doing that!
Anyway, how good a camera ship would dear old Concorde make? Tiny windows you can't take out and not a lot to see from FL God knows what...and Hawks no good either 'cos there's nowhere for the director ducky to sit...
Thinks - how much more impressive if the big silver bird had run through inverted and then PUSHED up - just think of all the cigar ash on the ceiling!!!!

Hmmmm. I followed the same route, lifting the images initially from my company site, then FTP'ing from my confuser to my 'other' website, all with a singular lack of success. They are my pictures, anyway, so there should be no issue of copyright

Helidrvr, what else is hosted on the machine you put the piccies on ? My company's firewall stops me from accessing that site ("content not suitable") based on its Host address.
Every attempted access to a restricted site is logged, so with all these links being added in to the threads, they'll soon have me down as a raging pervert (rightly or wrongly :-) )
