The most idiotic, most disturbing scene ever put into movie, that involve a helicopter in whole history of cinematography - can be seen under link bellow. Although be warned, sheer stupidity of that scene, may shut your brain off for few long minutes, maybe hours even...

Let's stick to the facts.
The Bronson movie was Breakout. In the movie, Bronson played a cropduster, an expert FW pilot. He took helicopter lessons in order to bust a guy out of a Mexican prison, but he wasn't very good at flying the helicopter. The airwork and aviation stuff in the movie was pretty well done and fairly factual.

Back to “Blue Thunder” for a sec. Do you remember the scene where the villain opens the cowl of the B206 and loosens the nut/bolt combo going to the fuel control? The bolt was installed back words/upside down.
And actually for a while there were experiments to greatly reduce the sound of a tail rotor by using the same technology factories and Bose use. It system weighed too much. But if you had it, why turn it off?

Lt. Fubar, that was truly appalling. What kind of spoonheads put money up to finance an epic piece of sh1te like that?
The only way you can redeem yourself is to tell me you know a source for a copy of "Deadly Encounter" starring the Hughes 500 (oh, and Larry Hagman). I can't find this anywhere and am desperate to see it again. It gets my vote for the best heli film and they have even dubbed in the correct sound for each type of heli.

Gentlemen, thanks for the heads-up on that. The last time I looked it up on ebay, someone was selling a video cassette of it for around $300 so it was a little out of my reach. This looks to be a little more reasonable! Thanks.

Movie stars have super hearing !
... It must be something to do with all the cash they are paid for a few minutes "work",
but have you noticed how most movie "stars" have superior hearing abilities,
and can carry on a perfectly normal person to person conversation ( no headphones / intercom ) during flight in a variety of machines that would, to the average non movie star with "ordinary" hearing abilities, render them deaf within a few minutes

Hangar Start-up.
As well as super-human hearing ability, these actors are damn fine pilots too, when required.

That "Hangar Departure" from the opening scene of Deadly Encounter was excellent. Larry picked it up into a very precise 1 foot hover and even dropped the tail as he came out the door so he didn't catch his tail-fin on the doorframe. He recovered nicely from that minor case of LTE on climb-out as well. And all of this whilst wearing a pair of sandals. Outstanding!
Seriously though, could they not find a smaller hangar than that one? I'll bet the stunt pilot reviewed his life insurance when he saw the story-board for that scene.

Mind you, I'm truly amazed they managed to find 11 minutes worth of 'best scenes' so in fact, maybe I should be thanking you? Having watched that monatge of utter poop there's no fear of me wasting a couple of hours watching the whole thing

Haha, than you have somewhat 1,5 hours of life more than me! Unfortunatly I let myself get tricked to watch the WHOLE thing once... I'm still recovering.

A long time ago (1987 ) I did some flying for a movie called "Nowhere to Hide"
I saw all the film we shot and there were some great shots. One shot of a helicopter flying over a glassy water lake with clouds and helicopter reflected below on the mirror like lake surface was a thing of beauty.
Most of the stuff that made it into the movie were the mediocre first takes and none of the really good stuff made it into the finished product.
Blame it on the film editors I guess.
I wish I could get copies of all the stuff that ended up on the cutting room floor.

At least that's better than taking off while the turbines are still spooling up.
Things would be much better if they just used the original soundtrack. The people who don't know what a helicopter sounds like or what the operating procedures are won't care or notice, anyway, so why waste time adding effects that only annoy people who know the difference? Same still goes for cars in many movies. Bad editing drives me up the wall.
The only movie that I can think of that's realistic is Apocalypse Now.

I just love the sound of a 500 in a steep descending turn... but the movie producers/editors insist that stock Bell 47 sound footage will do it every time.
I have seen one movie with a helicopter that had the sounds of a 500, Squirrel and a Jetbox in a space of 45 seconds, Now thats talent!
