Flying through canyons

Since this clip has been posted on Youtube almost 2 years ago, its most likely a repost; however I'm sure its well worth to watch again... pretty scary tough

A rescue from pico de San Carlos en Picos de Europa, cantabria, Spain.

Helicopter is a S76A+.

The first bit of the video are the specialists from GREIM (guardia civil mountain rescue specialists)

In the morning they have called in the helicopter to pick up the wounded climber.

VPAW alpine rescue

August 2005 a back country skier slid 300 metres down Mt Feathertop, and has posted video footage of his winch rescue by the VPAW Dauphin.

The first video is good for background and a bit of blood, but the

Part 2 of the winching and Part 3 inside aren't bad.

Mt Feathertop is a tricky area to fly around, with typical 6000 ft wind shear off a razorback ridgline. Not somewhere that I'd like to winch: BZ the crew

His ego maybe---You can see he released the water before lifting out of the dip otherwise the weight on the skid would cause an imbalance and it may rollover.

I know what he was trying to do--I fly fires myself for a living. I was merely stating that it is an embarrassment to hook your bucket on a skid--I have yet to do that---he is obviously extremely talented, (I have done many other embarrassing things however). Had he have lifted off with a full bucket of water AND the bucket hooked over the skid, the lateral arm for the weight of the bucket would have been on the skid, therefore putting him out of lateral CG. Hence--because he is so talented--he kept his thumb on the remote release switch allowing the water to drain as he lifted up. He obviously then had to fly back to his helitack unit, or what ever you call your ground crew over there, and pay them copious amounts of alcohol to unhook his bucket fro m the skid so that he could continue his firefighting work. He obviously failed to pay enough people as this embarrassing video of him is now all over the internet.

Maybe I should explain my posts from now on. By the way--was it you?

Another "ups" while flying fires:

Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane sucks up a Buoy

(I think that buoy more or less got entangled with the snorkel, rather than sucked in, but still an interesting vid)

OCTOBER 23, 2008 LAFD AW139 WILDFIRES SEPULVEDA PASS

I cannot understand why they only carry a 400 gallon (1514L) tank.

It was posted a long time ago: Post #15

Also, it's quite definitely not a Spitfire
