WHO Is worth working for in Australia ??

Reading thru recent threads I notice a lot of negativity about Australian employers and companies in general.
Recent postings about Jayrow, Esso, Australian Helicopters, Gymble and Beckers to name a few have made me wonder how many Aussie pilots are happy with the company and management they work for ????.

I haven't always been happy with the companies i've worked for in this country but i certainly am now. I just wonder if many other PPruners are ???

"Overpitched" Good to see someone is having a positive experience.
A curious thing to note, is that much of the negativity in the threads you refer to comes from a few historically negative sources.
Also of interest is that much of the negative content is at least 2nd hand and often even more removed. Where is the first hand input? Or don't they participate here?
The recently emerged "up and go" (morphing names?)appears to be subtly different. Not for him (or her) the simple "tear it down" motive. He's had a post removed already but clearly wants to find whatever thread will let him stay long enough to denigrate which appears to be more the aim.

None of them

They all try and shaft their employees, and most of the time they succeed.

Overseas is no better, but it is in some areas a TAX FREE shafting you get.

Put it down perhaps to the Australian healthy disrespect for authority. As with any organisation you find both up and down sides, and as with most people, you find a tendency for the negatives to be talked about rather than the positives. (It has been said that the only time you hear anything positive of a person is at their funeral). Its probably a reflection on the desire of most people to try and improve on what they see about them. I spent my time with Esso and would rate it as the best job in the world, that is not to say there was no down side. See the item by Peter Tickner at

http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...hreadid=180205

I ranked Peter as among the best, if not the best, C & T pilot I ever had the privilege of flying with.

Thumbs up LIFE'S GOOD!!!!

Spent nearly ten yrs in the Mil followed by the last 4 1/2 yrs in a contract role. Have had great times in both. $$ lifestyle and wife & kids all being happy has largely resulted in my choices. Yes as others in the post have eluded to ESSO is a good option, but then there are many good options. Also have mates in CHC-Aust, Bristows-Aust, QLD Rescue, RAN and RAAF , media channels, Sea World Heli and all are happy mainly because thay are good guys and are motivated.

I guess it all boils down to what kind of person you are and what floats your boat. There are many folks that are manky and narly simply because that's their personality. Beware the late night negative sentament from other pruners that have an axe to grind. These dudes are generally in it to arc folks up and see what they get in terms of bites. Pretty easy advice here, The best way to look like a di - -head is to argue with one, hence don't.

My 2 cents, There has probably never been a better time to be in RW aviation as many jobs/opportunities are opening up with the vietnam/baby boomer dudes looking at retirement on the horizon and coys expanding. Chin up-Life is Good!!!!

Yes PT is a good bloke and did my wings test a few moons ago.

This is one for the thread "who is worth working for in Australia". Armidale is a nice country town, plenty of young women with the Uni close by and Fleet seems to be a good company with a good variety of work in the summer on fires etc.

Briefings included...

No matter what operator you choose, make sure that you get briefings during your course. Don't opt for the short course and do the flying course only, as when it comes time to stand infront of a student and brief, you will want to have a little foundation to work off.
My rating was completed in the Illawarra with "Aerowasp", now Camden, and I haven't looked back when it comes to be a little more confidient with a student.

Also beware of the scam of a school taking you on for the instructors course, when they do not have an instructor who can recommend you to CASA for testing. That requires a separate authorisation above a Grade 1 with 500 hours instructing, and is not that common.

What some schools have been reported as doing is giving you 38 hours then hawking you round to another school's examiner - who may be unwilling to accept you as he only has your file to go on.

Ask around - in several states - before putting your hard earned dosh down. The two mentioned here are reputable, and I did mine recently with Aerowasp when they were at Illawara.

Thank you all very much for your replies.

I was one student that did a licence at chopperline a few years ago now.

I had the pleasure of flying with Tub for about 10 hours, yes he was a good instructor, but in my experience at chopperline i had too many instructors trying to teach me the same thing too many ways.

Everyone has their own flying technique and your student will adapt to that.

What does everyone think about the Victorian schools??

Thanks for the cao link will study it!

Happy landings

I am currently working in the scrub at the moment, However when things get quiet around Nov/dec I was thinking about doing an instructor rating. I should have around 500 or hours by then if all keeps going well.
What does the industry think of low time instructors?

Will I manage to find a job with only 500 hours under my belt?

I will be happy to go back out bush next season but if a training job came up I would have a go at that. I know in the States and europe you can instruct with less Total time than we need here in Australia, and that seems to be the first job of many new CPL'S. So it cant be that hard really!!!

It will be interesting to hear some of your thoughts.

Australasian updates - growth continues - six month report

Australia - Year to 23 Jul ’05.

Since January the fleet has grown from 1192 to 1247, an increase of 55 helicopters. The growth over 29 weeks is almost two new helicopters on the Register each week. The growth rate is holding steady at 8.31%, which is the average of the previous twelve months. At this rate of increase there will be extra 99 helicopters on the Register by 31 December, or another 114 jobs by this growth alone, plus normal attrition due retirement, illness, etc.

New Zealand – Year to 30 Jun ‘05

Since January the fleet has grown from 597 helicopters to 621, an increase of 24 helicopters. The growth over 26 weeks is 24 helicopters or 0.92 new helicopters on the Register per week. This is an increase in the growth rate from 6.64% to 8%. June has had a growth well above the past twelve month’s average. At this rate of growth there will be an extra 48 machines on the Register by 31 December, or another 55 jobs, plus those created by normal attrition.

Outlook: The helicopter industry is in a very healthy state. Most distributors indicate that delays on the production lines, due to a world wide strong demand, have slowed deliveries in Australasia. Has stock been available, the above figures would have been higher. Australia is holding steady at a growth rate of 8.31% pa and New Zealand has achieved a growth rate of 8.01% which is up on the past year.

Hope this helps helicopter watchers.......

SASless, you're implying that pilots back home actually get paid. Very misleading! But we do have tons of new aircraft right Rob!!!!!!!!!
