Thumbs down

It's probably because neither Bristow nor CHC have made any announcement about new pay scales as yet, despite CHC pay supposedly being reviewed as from May. Maybe after a few more pilots leave they'll say something - but don't hold your breath

Do they pay an "Escape and Evasion" bonus if you make it back on yer own after a hijacking?

Devil

I believe that in the case of CHC they offer you a transfer to a different operation so far from getting a bonus, you lose out on incentive pay

A certain 'other' company decided that the week I left my tour early (following The Shell CMO signing me off as unfit to work) was leave owed and deducted it accordingly from my records Then compound that with the fact that by working a week less you have accrued less leave anyway, and I ended up owing more than a week Needless to say, I managed to redress the balance later.

That year also saw many pilots and engineers being involved in recovering aircraft that had been abandoned in the field following kidnappings (as well as one that was landed on a river bank with a blade delamination). Those individuals were rewarded with a 5000 Naira cash sum. I only got the one lump though, despite recovering my own aircraft and assisting with the recovery of the river bank one! Mind you that was back in the days when 5000 naira was 25 quid, so about 5 days CLA!

Ho Hum!!!

Trade Pay scales

Guys i have heard that CHC and Bristows are both holding off on pay rises.
I need to get a copy of what pay scales CHC are paying in Africa at the moment so our company can macth it or better it. This is good for us all as when we all hear about another company getting paid more than what we do it helps raise the bar!!!!!!!
Please anyhelp with links or copies of the scales would be gratefull.
Oh Thanks Mama M

Payscales CHC Nigeria

Hi guys,

these payscales are about 2/3 years old. In the days when Schreiner was running the Africa operations. I do not know if they have raised the money a lot. CHC took over Schreiner so probably also it´s payscales. But I also believe that they pay in Canadian dollars now. Hope that this helps you a little bit and I will try to find a newer document.

Heliharm,
CHC didn't take over Schreiner/APRAM payscales or pay structure. There are a few ex-Schreiner guys still on the old APRAM scheme, but all new hires are now on CHC pay scheme and many of the old Schreiner guys have now also changed over to CHC. Everyone in CHC is paid in Canadian Dollars.

It seems the Heli-Malongo pilots are in need for a pay rise already - they have just snapped the contract away from PHI and already in search of better pay and conditions - which is good to see of course.

Chevron/LSG/Sonair in Angola pays US$95,000/yr and crews have to pay a 15% tax in Angola, which leave you with just over US$80,000. No other benefits - nil -zero- finito!

Good luck in Malango Boys!

Keep us posted.

Chopper Jog

Heli Malongo is Chevron and Sonangol or Sonair so they have hardly "snatched" the contract from PHI, they have decided to do it themselves due to the compulsory requirement to have a JV with Sonair to be working offshore helicopters where Sonangol is a partner of the Oil Company.

Do you think that Oil companies would would really have Sonair working for them at their rates if there was a genuine choice? CHC and Heli Union only contract through Sonair to oil companies because Sonair effectively has a monopoly due to being the "government" owned company. That's what you have to do to do business in Angola.

The jungle rumbles

Hi CJ and Hippo,

Yes both comments are pretty well on the money!!!!!!!
While we are on the subject of money seems to be very hard to get the CHC guys to post of copy of the pay scales here. Not asking for any names. The Heli Malongo Management are very open to matching what others get for equal time in West Africa.
The General feel here is that the folks are very happy for the OLD birds from PHI to go and welcome in the new fast a/c helio's!!!

CHC pay

Generally, if your not working for ACN, then an offshore IFR Captain would be getting 3665/month (level 14 of 14 levels) as well as 209/ per day onsite and then a per diem maybe given too if food isn't provided. Different countries also have different incentive pay ie: hazard/hardship pay that is usually anwheres from 50 -125 /day on site as well
Company also contributes 4% (pathetically low in my estimation ) towards your gracious retirement! (you'll be eating the very best dog-food )
There is also health and dental coverage as well as short/long term disability.
Training is very good and you are paid your daily rate whilst training.
All numbers in $ CDN
Hope this helps

New scales posted on CHC website today. 4% increase on daily and 4% increase on monthly. Top level IFR Captain $84,000 + Cdn. Not what we were expecting. Usually we all get notification of the increase at the same time, this time its buried in an HR webpage. No mention of additional incentive pay, TRE/TRI, BM allowance.

You are lucky since this forum is frequented by many who have an intimate knowledge of the West African helicopter scene. Even the management of a well known Nigerian company called Caverton often post in these forums.

They have offices in Lagos and I am sure that you being local and them being a local company, they would be able to give you lots of advice and would even consider sponsorship in return for a bond arrangement. Such arrangements have been made before with great success in the international arena although I don't have any specific knowledge of how they might work in Nigeria. Shouldn't be any different in my opinion so it maybe worth a try.

Bristow and CHC also have operations in Nigeria and once qualified, they would probably be only too happy to let you join the long queue for a job in Nigeria.

I am sure that Bristow HR would be able to help. Why don't you send them an email. Steve Medlin in the HR is an old friend of mine as well as a friend to many others who frequent this forum. I can help with an introduction if you wish. His email is [email protected]

Good luck and I am sure that you will find no shortage of advice here on this Rotorheads forum.
