Compressor Washing

Does your organization record, in the Technical Log / Aircraft & Engine logbooks, maintenance ground run and compressor washing time?

Or are we the only people flushing money down the drain in this manner?

Turbomecca does not require maintenanece runs to be recorded. Check with your engine manufacture's maintenanace manual.

On the 902 (P&W 206E) we comp wash and PAC each day.

During the PAC the aircraft logic records this as flying time (around 2 minutes total) because the aircraft is in a flight configuration, albeit with one engine at idle. Also the IIDS will record 2 flights (1 for each engine check).

Come midnight and the tech log totals are added, the IIDS total flight time reading and Tech Log totals match up.

So in our case the PAC time is recorded, but as far as normal ground run times, because the aircraft is not in a flight configuration, (CLP being <6%), then this time is not recorded, however the engine starts will be.

Hope it makes sense and helps.

This was explained to me by a Turbomeca rep some time ago, comparing the Arrius and the Allison 250:- Allison allow a 3000 start cycle life on the turbine but require that you log each start. TM don't require starts recording but they allow for that by having a 2000 cycle limit. As sickorski says, there will be something about it in the AMM.

As regards comp washes, we used to fresh water rinse our Arrius 1A every day; when we changed to the 2B it suddenly became something TM didn't want us to do. Now that some 2Bs have been suffering suspected contamination it looks like becoming a bright new idea....

I suppose it depends on the model, but we don't log any ground run time, and we don't log starts on 412s and S76s done purely for maintenance, IAW the RFM and letters from Bell, Sikorsky, Turbomeca, and Pratt. I don't have them available here, but there is documentation for not doing it. We log starts on small ships, AFAIK, but I don't really keep up with that. I have enough trouble staying on top of the models I fly.

Ya'

We do "Drying" runs every day for comp wash's that are done because we fly in a "SALT LADEN ENVIROINMENT"

Yes, we log them in the Tech Log but there is no Flying Hrs run recorded.

But we do record RINS(Starts) and (partial Starts) and the fact the we take off at the coast and then (EVERY FLIGHT) flight is inland by 25-35NM seems to make no difference.

Its the fact that you have to wait 40 mins for the techs (Engs) for the AC to COOL down that get's to most people.

And we still have to do IHUMS for a ground run.

Maintenance starts as well as test cell runs are not recorded as cycles or time against life limited components on Model 250 engines.
