Grrr Po Dust devil

I would have agree with you, that his position does carry with it huge responsibilities!

I do also have to agree that he deserves a lot of credit for what he does !

"The politics of that position would be something else", There is no doubt in my mind that this is so true!

Been awhile since the VPAW contract tender went out....surely it must have been awarded already...but can't find any info on this.... CHC I gather has won the contract again as they are still there...is this correct?

Also has the senior C & T pilot and line pilot positions been filled yet?

Curious thats all (don't read anything more into it)

I heard that the C&T pilot got filled from within, so another line pilot spot may come up. There is some movement around the rumour mill about the AS350 being sold and an EC135 being bought to replace it. Perhaps someone will add to the mill soon...

Gotta love the Police. They are all the same no matter where they are from.
Anyone in the Police ever consider safety and experience or is it just jobs for the boys as always?

And the problem with sourcing one line pilot job internally is? He met the minimum to be considered. Safety and experience? What makes you think he is any better or worse than anyone else with his experience? The fact he has been in the left seat for quite a few years is immaterial? Strange you know, it is the POLICE airwing after all, and many line pilot jobs have been sourced from outside, and will continue to be so. What is your problem exactly? Did you even apply? Or are we just victims of the "I've got more hours than you so therefore I should get the job" syndrome? Hours aren't everything, training and other experience also count these days. Next time maybe you should apply and see how you go........

Don't need to apply mate, already there and I Don't have that much of a problem with it really, if it is done properly. From my experience though this is seldom done and causes problems within the organisations themselves because they don't do it right.
If Mr Selfish is right and it is 500 hours total time, do you really think being given approval for multi-engine single pilot IFR captain is sound? I don't care if your Chuck Yeager or not.
I hope they are smart and apply certain limitations on what he can or can't do until this individual builds the necessary experience so 1. he himself can feel comfortable tackling any situation presented, 2. The other crew feel comfortable with him and there is no talk behind the poor guy's back and 3. he does not do something that at that point may be outside his skill level.
It is unfair to the individual to put him in that situation.
Maybe I wrote the previous post incorrectly or too sarcasticly Mungrel, but don't get me wrong, they should promote within, it makes sense in many ways. But as I said before, if it is done correctly.

He doesn't have approval for mutli eng. single pilot IFR, and won't have and won't be released to do so until he meets the requirements laid down by the Ops Manual, and in the opinion of the C.P and C.+T he can safely do so. Just like anybody else. Things aren't what they might once have been anymore.

Settle chums...

Capt Underpants...I don't recall seeing you at Hangar 104....or maybe I have!

Out of the two slots available, one went to a highly qual SPIFR style bloke, and it was considered that the organisation could afford to put a relatively low time guy in the other slot...It will be a work in progress for sure, but as someone quite correctly said, it keeps the 'P' in 'VPAW'.

This chap will do his type endorsement, followed by mucho ICUS day, followed by the same by night.....in about twelve months, he will progress onto IFR ops, and eventually, a rating....

Yes, I hear you say...he won't be totally mission capable for a couple of years, but that will be a management issue..

Remember, the VPAW used to take guys progressing through the Squirrel and train them on the 365; one of them may even be Capt Underpants...so this is nothing unusual...

Happy Landings.....

Gotta Get experience some how.

I'd like to congratulate VPAW for putting on a low hour pilot. It's the development thing that some of us have been going on about for a long time. It's good to see that at least one state government department is prepared to put in the effort.

Yes, there is a risk in putting on a low hour pilot, but as has been said, it is a management thing and scrutinised by the CP and C&T pilot. That's what they get paid for. This is risk management.

Perhaps Ex MIL blokes believe that only Ex MIL pilots should be allowed to apply for these sort of positions? Funny that a 500 TT pilot is not safe for the Police Force, but a naval pilot with the same hours flying ICUS in a twin can do deck landings at night???

Whoever is the guy with the shiny new wings, good luck and enjoy the opportunity.

Its about time that the Police got rid of the ambos and started to concentrate on their core functions of policing instead of putting all of its resources into satisfying their ambulance masters. If the ambos told the cops to go jump thats exactly what they'd do!

VPAW management don't really have a clue what their doing.... They can't decide on anything if they fell over it....the supposed new contract, I'm told, was suppossed to have been sewn up and decided on almost 2 years ago and they are still procrastinating over it.

I agree with you Mr Selfish. Particularly when they all had to pay their own way. May have been different if they covered the cost of the ornamental interview.
